Hi everyone. I've decided to launch my own graphic design and illustration website as I've worked for companies for some years now and have done some freelance on the side and I find I like the freelance a lot more But I have a big problem, this means making my own logo. A task that's hardest when done for yourself. So I need as many opinions as possible and since everyone here at the petopia forum is so creative and nice and from all over the world I thought I'd ask a favor and get your opinions on what I've come up with.

I figured I'd make a chameleon, animals are awesome! I do work with a photographer often who works in the wild and sends some of his proceeds to conserve wildlife. So I got some images as references form him and got to work,this is what I've come up with. The problem is...a few people I've asked think its a frog. /runs and hides in nearest hole. I'm thinking of adding spots to prevent that,but I'd love to know what you guys think. I've been on this forum sometime now and I respect your opinions.

How can anyone think that that's a frog!? It's obvious that it's a chameleon to me. It is an awesome logo!

Hmm, I do see the slight frog resemblance at first glance though. I think that the angle of being underneath doesn't allow you to show the headshape of a chameleon. If you altered the pose a bit so you could add that trademark crest at the back of the head I think it might go a long ways. Some simple stripes might give it more of a chameleon appearance as well.

I can't see how anyone would mistake that for a frog though, they have that distinct grasping shape which I've never seen a frog have. xD But yes, stripes would be a lovely addition, none that would clash though! (needs to be one stylish chameleon!) <3

I can see where the frog notion is coming from. The classic chameleon features are downplayed a bit in your image because of the angle and style of work, namely the crest on the head, the turret eyes, and the extreme vertical shaping of the body. It's all there -- you captured it well -- but it doesn't jump out at the viewer immediately.

When I took a quick glance at it, the only thing that spoke "frog" was the head, which is probably because of the view. Maybe if you tilted his head a little bit, so the crest and such would be more visible...? I also agree with the stripes idea. It's very pretty! I absolutely love the colours you used.

But.. but.. grippy feet! Twisty tail! I dunno any frog that has a tail like that!

I love the logo (the second better, the colours pop more I find). I see what the others are saying though, I can see where the misconception comes from. I still say it's obvious that it's not a frog, but that probably requires people to know what a chameleon looks like... Or at least what a frog doesn't look like.

The thing with a logo is that they're often very prone to first-glance impressions. While I agree that it really doesn't look like a frog altogether, the first look at the head area in particular could certainly give a frog vibe. If just a few trademark chameleon characteristics were added it could clear up any misconceptions.

I totally agree with you on that Veph. I wasn't trying to dismiss what everyone was saying, I'm just saying that a little more than a quick glance should give away the non-froggedness. But yeah, quick glances are what most people afford a logo.

Haha, yeah. ^^ I wasn't disagreeing with you either, just wanted to point out the fact that most people are lazy and don't give a lot of thought to things they look at.

Thanks for your input everyone. I've made a few updates and I think I'm also going to try and few more with different kinds of chameleons just in case.

STRIPEY!

I met a chameleon once, and he was all green. I actually didn't know they came in all kinds of colours like the one Veph linked up above. Anyway! This particular chameleon got very deep, forest green when he was happy - crawling on his owner's shoulder and couch and such. When the owner moved to put him back in his cage, he dug his claws/toes/whatever they are into the couch and turned a bright yellow-green. It was super cool, he was like a little mood ring.

Totally useless story in this context but I felt like sharing.

Chameleons are really amazing creatures. I've seen some absolutely stunning colours in them.

Your latest just screams chameleon to me, Bulletdance. The changes must be subtle (because I can't really point them out), but the effect is huge.
