So as i understood it from reading the threads here BM will become a gun only hunter, MM will be bow only - and maybe petless, and survival will be melee with pets?

So if your a bm hunter can you mog a gun into a bow? Other mogs require you being able to use the item before you can mog it...

I dont plan on returning to wow.. but if i ever did i would hate to run around with a gun

Until now, biws, guns and crossbows are moggable, no matter which kind of weapon you use.
I don't think they'll change that.

And where did you get the you can't use any but one type?
The only thing is, that the ARTIFACT WEAPON is defined for each spec.

Yeah, the Artifact is specifically a bow for MM, a gun for BM, and a spear/polearm for SV. You WILL and can mog the artifact into something else, but you cannot mog something else to look like the artifact.
We're not 'guns only' as we'll be able to mog it into a bow or crossbow if we want [from older xpacs, of course], which is what I'll be doing. However, there are no variants of bow for BM in the artifact skins. One 'railgun' as someone put it, or rather a sideways crossbow/bolt launcher thingie, but no bow skins. That's strictly for the MM artifact, who also gets at least one crossbow variant.

Soo i can do the quest/artifact as mm then get the skin to use later? Or will the artifact change depending on spec?

As it stands currently on the Alpha, you have to gain each spec's artifact separately. However only one spec (SV) is currently available for testing so it's all a bit unclear how easy it will be to get a second artifact after your first. But currently if you switch specs your artifact won't automatically switch.

And you'll still be end up locked in to only using the MM artifact [bow] as MM and the BM artifact [gun] as BM. As far as I am aware, they don't share skins for the artifacts between the specs/artifacts. But, yeah, like Wain said, you'd end up having to go pick up the other artifact, you won't automatically get all three since they each have their own special quest lines. So you can start with whichever spec is your main spec and go snag the other artifact for your alternate spec at a later time.

But I guess that also answers your first question with a 'Yes and no' kinda deal as BM IS locked into using the Gun artifact only, BUT we -can- mog it into something else if we don't like it, which is why I said we weren't stuck with a gun if we didn't want to be. Personally, Thwip runs with the bow that drops off Heroic Rags and likely will continue to going into Legion as I really like the model and it matches her mog. :>

As it currently stands:
Only MM will get to use the artifact bow art.
Only BM will get to use the artifact gun art.

You can transmog old art over an artifact, but in an expansion where the a feature are the artifact weapons, and the art for them is a key reward, that seems like a design flaw. At least it's better than for feral druids. Up until this point, there's been a grand total of two one handed feral weapons, and one of them had been made two handed (both weapons from silithus/AQ). And unless xmog 2.0 is changing it, you can't use your vast collection of staves and polearms to stick with old art you like better.

Probably not.
You can mogg the artifact to look like some older weapon.
You cannot mogg another weapon to look like the artifact.

Or that is what I understood.

You can't mog something to look like an artifact (or a legendary). But you CAN mog an artifact to look like another item (in my case my artifact gun will be mogged to the "Black bow of the Betrayer")
