Blizz. destroyed Warcraft movie for me (ok, so they did't)

The soundtrack to a film is a large part of my pleasure when watching a film.
The soundtrack of WoW is also a large part of my enjoyment of the game.
I never played the original trilogy of Warcraft games, so I don't know much about their soundtracks.

However, I just listened to a track from the new Warcraft movie, and saw who wrote it.
It absolutely cut all my excitement for seeing this film.

I hate that they contracted this hack composer to do the score to the film. He totally destroyed Pacific Rim for me, along with Clash of the Titans. Two films I SHOULD have totally loved.

I am a very sad Blood Elf right now.

[ Just moved this from the BlizzCon forum, which I should have locked ages ago. Not really sure if it counts as WoW or Other discussion, but I put it in WoW. ]

I thought I was putting it in a general WoW section of the forum.
I assumed chatter about the Warcraft movie would be on topic.

To each their own I guess. I loved the score in Pacific Rim overall. However, I have other issues with the Warcraft film outside of the score. It takes more than a score to ruin a film for me.

That's a shame, I'm not sure if a score on its own could ruin a movie for me unless it was absolutely ridiculous. I loved the Pacific Rim soundtrack through, so I'm actually pretty excited for the Warcraft movie soundtrack (thank god it's not cheesy dubstep like that one awful trailer ). As for the movie itself, I'll have to wait and see. I don't have...super high hopes, but crossing my fingers it'll be at least decent.

I'm a professional composer of classical music, so the music does have a huge impact on my enjoyment of a film.
Unfortunately, due to training, I hear absolutely every misstep in music, every awkward moment, all sorts of details that more casual listeners might not get.
In the case of Pacific Rim, it was enough to draw me out of the film.
Like I said, I hear things differently from the average listener, simply because it's what I do for a living.

The game's soundtrack is so beautifully put together that I think it's an awful shame they couldn't have used the same composers for the film.

I actually really like Pacifist Rim's stuff. I'm no composer, so I imagine someone with more trained ears would catch every mistake.

I loved the soundtrack of Pacific Rim, but wasn't particularly impressed with the score of the Warcraft movie. It was "decent", but from a company and game franchise known for its stellar soundtrack, I was a little underwhelmed.

Got back from the movie a few hours ago.

Absolutely LOVED the movie. I thought it was fantastic, and am now dying to see that extra 40 minutes that was cut from the film. I hope they release a director's cut.

The music was not as bad as I was afraid it might be, it only dragged me out of the film a few times. This guy seems to have exactly ONE thing for action sequences, and it's incredibly annoying and clichéd.

My boyfriend and I went last night and I enjoyed it so much! :) I'm definitely seeing it again, and I really hope we can get the director's cut when it's out on DVD.

Okay, so I feel like my previous post wasn't enough. I really liked the movie. I think the CG was done very well (especially the orcs), and I think overall they stayed very true to the lore. There were a couple things I raised my eyebrows at (like the day-long journey to Goldshire from Stormwind that actually takes about 30 seconds), but other than that it was great. I think my favorite characters were Durotan and Khadgar. :D

I accepted - expected actually - that the geography in the film was not necessarily to the same scale as in the game.
In the game it would be unrealistic to have to walk for a day to get from one town to the next.
In a movie it would be unrealistic to have two towns sit 30 seconds from each other.

Oh yeah, of course! I just kinda chuckled to myself because I'm so used to the in-game geography. It was fine, though. :)

I as blown away by how easily I could identify various places in the film.
I even noticed the shop that has the guild vendors in Stormwind, at one point.
I was really blown away by how the film-makers brought the geography of the game to life. It was beautiful.
