Not sure if anyone knows this but I want to let you guys know how to tame Portent in the Vale now we lost traps as BM hunters. Make sure to have flare as a keybind and select Wyvern sting as a talent before going out to track it is important.

What I did was follow the tracks until I was ahead of him a bit then landed and popped flare once off cooldown until he spawned once I saw him I hit him with wyvern sting that puts him to sleep, my flare ran out so I had to hit it again he was still asleep and an easy tame.

Binding Shot is another viable option, I think. It's actually what I was using even before the patch screwed everything up. But it looks like binding shot is one of the few things unscathed, so it should work.
