That's my thinking, too. Especially since someone else reported one that tamed as a basilisk. And the NPC are often called 'saurolisks', so I'm waiting to see what they ultimately decide. Perhaps they're considering a snappy reptile family that includes both crocs and these.Valnaaros wrote:Probably temporary, since the Komodos aren't like crocolisks outside of being reptiles (unless Blizz intends on changing Crocolisk into a different family).lilaughingwolf wrote:Wain, just so you know the lizards show up as Crocolisks when tamed Talon was a Bird of Prey and the Nevermore (white raven) was a Carrion Bird if that helps. So far still no other skins but the two for the lizards

Actually, looking at the model files again, I wouldn't be surprised if a variation of the toad loa appeared as a regular beast.
The reason I say this is that there's a second model, called "toadload_small". Models like this are usually created for minipet situations. Unlike the main loa version, this one has no crown of swamp vegetation, and it has normal eyes rather than blank, glowing ones. In other words, it looks just like a regular beast, kind of a toad with some thorny spikes on its head. It could easily be used in the wild without it looking unnatural.
I'll get pics up shortly.

I believe I have seen that one, and you're right, it could fit as a regular beast.
Re: Petopia official BfA model image page
The "non-loa" version of the toad loa. It could easily make a credible wild beast:
I also took another look at the new toad critter model, but unfortunately I get the impression it's way too low-poly for a tameable pet, i.e.:

Yeah, that last one is definitely intended to be a critter and/or battle pet, but the others are high-poly enough to be suitable pets
Re: Petopia official BfA model image page
I've added them to the page. Thanks for the suggestion

Here's hoping we get them. Those, the komodo dragons, and the bees have me very interested.Wain wrote:I've added them to the page. Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah, those dire toads have such unique character. Having one besides you while you kick people's asses in battlegrounds is amazing.
And I saw some regular beast mobs with that model, so there's a chance!

I want that bright green not-loa toad for my Goblin, been wanting tameable frogs since the bullfrog model was revealed. BFA seems like the best time for them. <3
Thanks for including them, Wain!

Re: Petopia official BfA model image page
So, I finally got WoW Model Viewer to display the proper geosets (which modify the model's shape) for the individual skins. That feature had been broken for BfA and it made it difficult to see how some models were supposed to appear.
For the new bird of prey model, what it revealed is that all the skins with 'hawk' in their name are configured to use the variant with the bigger head and tail, while all the 'falcon' skins are configured with the sleeker form.
So, I've split the model in two: hawks and falcons are now displayed separately.
See all the falcons here: http://www.wow-petopia.com/model.php?id=falcons
And all the hawks here: http://www.wow-petopia.com/model.php?id=hawks
They actually have access to all the same skins, and there's no intrinsic reason why each can't use the skins created for the other - the skins don't have any defining features that lock them to one model, unlike the vulture/albatross shared model thing, where the features on the skins are different and look weird on the other model. But for now I've just inclued the skins that seem intended for that model.

Interesting! Thanks for all of your hard work, Wain
Re: Petopia official BfA model image page
I've added these beasties to the BfA page, as potential serpents. The model name is SeaEel, but models sometimes end up going in a different direction to what their name suggests - like "Horse2" ended up being a new type of unicorn and we had to wait until Horse3 to see a horse update. In this case, these creatures stand / slither upright, like a classic tameable serpent or the new cobra model, they also have serpent-like scales (eels usually don't), and Aroim's screenshot reveals they slither on land (albeit probably in swampy and coastal areas). So it appears that they're being treated a lot more like a kind of amphibious serpent.
I've just called them 'eel-serpents' for now. It's not an official name, just something I'm using on the page.
You can see all their looks here: http://www.wow-petopia.com/model.php?id=eelserpents
I think they'd make a great addition to that family. They look really cool.

I've put the "slender"/one-headed core hound model up on Petopia:
The single-head version reinforces my theory that core hounds should belong to a larger group of "devil dogs" (need a better name), which includes the runed and normal demon dogs that are currently classed as Dogs, and normal dogs should probably be merged with Wolves. Just my theory, though
A couple of notes on the model:
- there are no animation files yet (at least not in my list) so the posture it's showing may not be exactly as it'll appear. Things without animations tend to look a little like they have rigor mortis.
- the texture is a lot more "cartoony" than the larger core hounds, more like a Heroes of the Storm model. Less fine texturing and more strong colours, but it still looks perfectly good for a pet.
Also in this build there's a gold wind serpent. No white replacement yet, but there is gold. It's quite a lovely bronze-gold and shows they can still do shiny/metallic colours nicely:
Posterior view:
Notes on the gold wind serpent:
- the tip on the tail on the non-rattle model variant is weird. The texture doesn't fit and suggests to me that either something different is going on with this skin, or it was only designed to be used with the rattle-tailed variant.
Tail tip on non-rattle version:

The new Diet Core Hound is nice looking the more I look at it. Sure it's kinda weird right now with just one head, but it's just a matter of time for us to get used to it. I just hope that it will not be exclusive to the DID like what they did with the Void Stalker for Void Elves.

Hm... that's possible, especially if it's the base for the racial mount..Shinryu Masaki wrote:The new Diet Core Hound is nice looking the more I look at it.
