Classic: Can't train a cat to prowl

I have a level 37 cat (Broken Tooth) who currently has 39 training points.
When I look under Beast Training, I see Prowl 1 requires a level 30 pet and 15TP's.
Why can I not train him to prowl?

Does your pet already have abilities learned?
I'm pretty sure the max a pet can learn is like 4 skills. So you would be able to have Claw/Bite/Prowl/Cower (or Growl) .. But nothing else. So you wouldn't have Dash. Gotta pick which skills you think are best.

Yes, only 4 active skills possible.
There is a nice pet ability calculator at wowhead :

This is why I would never learn Cower.
Also for a Cat you have to make a more difficult choice between the 5 other active abilities.
Do you go for more DPS ( Bite + Claw ) or Dash or Prowl ...
You could also give up Growl if it is purely for PvP or DPS in party. Then if you go solo you take another pet. Altho I would have my Party/Raid pet slot reserved for my Ghostpaw Alpha Wolf. Choices Choices, so many Choices

No, I'm well aware of the limit of 4 active skills. I currently have Claw/Bite/Growl/Dash active. I'm looking to train Prowl and
switch it out for Dash... however, I can't train Prowl...

I don't quite recall how it worked.. As I never really did retraining myself. But I think you might actually have to go to a pet trainer and have them retrain your pet, aka clearing your pets stuff. Which will allow you to pick the skills you want.

Yes, go to a Pet Trainer, where you learn the Resistance and Growl skills. They can retrain (Untrain) your pet for 10 silver the first time. The cost goes up each time you retrain.
