Finally got one of the World Quest-spawned tames.

Milden Mud Snout: Does not keep its name and didn't show up as rare in the UI, though its WQ is rare.

Still keeping a look out for Baconlisk's World Quest to be up.

Thanks :)

I also managed to just catch one that I didn't have on the list.

Deepclaw, a world quest crab in Azsuna, was finally up today. I've been watching for that quest for many months and it's only finally appeared, and it retains its name.

Its look is unusual but not unique, as it's shared with Fathomless Mauler crabs in Tanaan Jungle.

Skikx'traz keeps its name.

Of the remainders:
- The bacon quest hasn't appeared in Suramar in ages, so we still can't test Baconlisk. Hopefully soon.
- Guardian of the Elders is probably not testable or tameable by anyone short of crazy.
- Pinky (quest version) is tameable in theory but I've had no luck as the other NPCs grab aggro and there are no other aggressives in the area to distract them with :P One post on Wowhead suggests letting my direhorn (which grabs aggro) die, but in practice it seems to have too much health to ever die (unless that's only an issue on the PTR).

Found a version of the Giant Cobra not listed on the main site. It is tameable and it DOES retain its name once tamed. It's in Vol'Dun, the rare Giant Cobra named Vathikur. It is also a different color than the shown green and red, more of a grey color, tames as Cunning spec. Coordinates are 56, 72 or north of the Temple of Akunda, in the mountains. Little open area with a bunch of pit snakes slithering around a dust mound. Kill the pit snakes Vathikur appears.

Welcome to Petopia forums! Here's the link for Vathikur.

The following are perhaps already well known, but just to make the list complete:

The Lost Spectral Gryphon in Stormwind does not keep her name.
Son of the Beast (102 elite, UBRS), the only corehound that uses the old model, does not keep his name, which is a shame.
Also in UBRS, Ironbarb Skyreaver (102 elite), which has a unique look and shows up in the third boss fight, Commander Tharbek, does not keep her name.
Oondasta does not keep his name.

Thanks :) I believe we only have two left to check now, and they both may be impossible to tame anyway: https://www.wow-petopia.com/tamenamesuggest.php

What an awesome group effort! It's satisfying to see nearly that entire list checked now. Hopefully some of the ones that don't retain their names get fixed in the future.

The help of everyone has is hugely appreciated. Thanks again! The amount of creatures you all checked was amazing and way more help than I dared hope for :)

I got to thinking; couldn't we get one crazy panda to do party sync over and over, repeating the quests at the start of the Wandering Isles while wearing full heirlooms and with those BoA 10% exp potions, to get them high enough to test the Guardian of the Elders? Cause in THEORY, that might make it less awful to level that way, and it'd be quick enough that we could do it before Shadowlands removes the starting experiences in favor of the generic one everyone gets.

No, I haven't tried those. Since they don't have unique names I suspect they won't keep them.

As much as I hate the stupid Pandaren, I'm leveling one right now to try and check Guardian of the Elders.

EDIT: Made it to level 17 with questing, wearing full heirlooms and with the Winds of Wisdom buff. Got a long way to go now, bleh. Turns out I can't party sync either. Gotta do it the old-fashioned way of mining and herbing for ages. This is going to take a while.

Good luck.
I made it to level 27 on the island before I gave up and deleted my character.
Course, this was before the bonus exp buff.
And when you had to mailbox heirlooms, so I couldnt get them.

Yeah, I'm 28 after a total of 3h52m. It's genuinely not that bad; 14~ minutes per level is acceptable. I will be pumping a few levels every day, so hopefully monday at latest, we'll finally know the answer.

EDIT: 6 hours in, I'm level 36. I spent six hours of the day on this. What the hell is wrong with me lol.

EDIT 2: 12 hours in, and I'm almost 57. Can't party sync until you leave the starting area (not an option), can't do dungeons or PvP, and can't get exp any other way than herbalism and mining. The hardest part of this is having to turn on another episode or movie when the previous one ends.

EDIT 3: Hit level 61. Exp from herbing and mining has significantly dropped; instead of 2% of a level every node, it's now 1%, and takes 84 nodes for one level.

EDIT 4: Hit 62. Gonna take 113 nodes to level. Yikes.

EDIT 5: Hit 63. Now it will take 176 nodes. Almost there!

EDIT 6: Final sprint from 64 to 65 will take a whopping 361 nodes. The end is in sight.

Mystery solved; Guardian of the Elders does NOT retain its name upon taming. FOR SCIENCE!

I am never doing that again, that's for sure lol. Just gonna leave my panda right there from now on until its name is obtainable.
Hint hint, mister lurker ;)
