Cannot Rename Rare Pets

With 200 pet slots now, I have been doing more rare hunting. I have been taming a lot of pets, but the ones that retain their names, I cannot rename at all. When I tame a non rare that defaults to the family name, I am able to rename it easily. Does anyone know why this is? I would like to rename these pets if possible!

I hope it’s not intended, but it apparently sticks with its name, with the beast abomination model, I had to tame a Corp’rethar guardian instead of taming Gluth or Precious so I can rename it for free

Scribes can create an item (Certificate of Ownership) so you can rename your pets, but I agree that it would be nice to automatically rename named pets.

Can confirm that using a Certificate of Ownership will allow you to change the pets name.

I sent my DK alt with inscription down to 1k Needles to farm up tons of sungrass so that he could churn out Certificates of Ownership for my assorted hunters. It doesn't take long to do, but I'd still rather be able to just rename the rares without using one.
