They now have a black and white mana ray for starting pet.

I'm not so sure about this...I just made a LFD for heck of it, and the screen shows that black mana ray at first, but when you log into the toon, it's the normal talbuk...man, that's a bumer.

The void elf has the same problem, their new starter pet is a panthara, and when they log in, it’s a void stalker

I wonder if it would be the pet they get if they "could" do Exile's Reach - for example, Humans and Orcs get different starter pets to normal that way.

Not sure. I saw an NE in Exile's Reach, and they had the orange panda tiger instead of that newer purple saber from the character screen. Starting to think they got the wrong pets on the new character screens.

...and the orange tiger was the wrong starter pet for Night Elves as well!
