Is there a list of tamable pets that is unknown or not confirmed to retain their names after taming?

If so, is there an effort to check it out and can anyone list the names of the beasts so we can check them out?

There sure is!

Most of our discussion has taken place in the Chains of Domination thread, because the latest round of changes have been made in 9.1.

There are only six left unchecked, plus six we have confirmed to not retain their names in 9.1 (that we have suggested should). You can see them here: https://www.wow-petopia.com/tamenamesuggest.php

Of the unchecked ones:
- Nyemi is a new 9.1 beast that is currently bugged. She spawns underneath the world and can't be reached.
- Lor the Loyal and Ventun the Ravenous are/were part of a quest phased version of Torghast where you rescue Baine. But the level they appear in seems to have been deleted in 9.1. We're leaving them on the list for now in case it's a temporary error.
- Haofeng only appears in VEB when a Mogu invasion is happening, and only on days when a specific quest event appears. We just haven't been lucky to see it yet.
- Junkyard D.0.G. is a pain to reach solo, in Mechagon.
- Blood Seeker spawns rarely in Deepholm and despawns very quickly after, so it's a pain to camp and test.
