Sandra Powers, aka Mania, long-time owner of Petopia, has just given me some terrible news about her health. She gave me permission to share it with you.

She's been diagnosed with cancer - I don't know the exact type, but it's an inoperable tumour and she's currently undergoing chemotherapy. According to what she told me, her long-term prognosis isn't great, but I'm really hoping that's a severe underestimate and she'll be around for many years to come.

I'll also repost what they mentioned on the Project Gorgon blog (Project Gorgon is her current MMO project):

Sandra had been suffering some mysterious ailments for a while, and doctors finally found the cause: a relatively rare kind of cancer. She's just started chemo, and it's rough. To put it mildly. So we'll have to see how it goes, and adapt.

Chemotherapy is truly awful to have to go through, and I hope it's working and she's getting through it okay. I also hope her husband Eric is doing okay through all this, as it's pretty terrifying for partners too.

Please keep her in your thoughts.

Honestly, I'm really sorry to read this.

Cancer is terrible, my family knows how horrible it is and of course I can't wish more than anything that everything goes well for Mania, under the circumstances.

My Dad had Cancer, so I know what it's like to have to go through it. Hope you are able to recover!
