Handicapped pets, or ones that could pass for handicapped?

I have a hunter who I want to have specialize in special needs pets, and I'm looking for any models that might visibly show some sort of disability. For example, when she gets up to 70, I'm going to get her a somnowl - since they run across the ground instead of fly for the most part, it can be an owl with a broken wing. Same for dread ravens. Are there any other pet models you can think of who have traits that could pass for disabled, or lend at least a minor visual to that kind of story? Probably going to exclude the diseased/undead models for now.

Hmm, interesting concept! And tricky to find ideas for. My first thought was some of the saddled or armored creatures, you could headcanon that they're wearing some sort of accessibility equipment, or a harness, similar to how disabled dogs can have wheelchairs. Nothing's going to quite look like that but it's as close as you can get perhaps. Some of the helmets cover their eyes and could indicate a blind animal maybe?


I know you said you'd probably avoid undead pets for now, but you can only really tell this one's undead at a close look because it has a skull, but the bandages could be fitting and I think it's the only beast model that has that sort of detail.


There's a few creatures with spears sticking out which might not be what you're looking for, unless you pretend it's something else.


That's the main ideas I can think of, really any sort of creature that has some sort of visual accessory is going to be your best bet I think, besides your idea of a bird running instead of flying, I'm not sure there's many models that have something that could indicate a disability besides ones with actual injuries (like the brain-exposed silithid), or the plagued ones. But when he is tamed, he does not retain the name... so he loses the Handicap.

So the other thing that comes to mind is toads that wear wooden masks, which are found in Ardenweald.
It could be said that they wear a prosthesis to protect their face after an accident or something similar.

Some great ideas! I love the idea of the ones with masks or facial armour being to protect an injured face or to indicate blindness; what a cool thought. You're totally right about the harnesses and armour, too! I wish I could tame the wolf that human hunters start with on Exile's Reach with the wraps around its legs -- that would be perfect. But alas, hunter in question is a vulpera.

The Lost Emberspit Scorpion has a wonky/broken leg that I don't think they've ever fixed. It's constantly taking pressure off the front right leg, which sort of reminds me of my old handicapped dog with a bad leg. Could RP it as having a lifelong injury.

I don't know if this falls under the Undead/Diseased, But its definitely a weird choice, Chimaeron. One of his heads is a hand and he has stitches on one of his heads, Surely that's gotta be considered a disability?


There are also the Silithid Colossals with their brains exposed, Again I might be stretching it a bit here.. But I could see it working as like a sorta failed molt when It tried to regenerate its head carapace?


There is Albinism and there are a few pets which share a lot of characteristics relating to it! Though it may not be what you personally see fits "Disability"

This might be pushing it a bit but due to blizzard seeking no interest in fixing them, Maybe one of the crystal scorpions from the nighthold? As when they're tamed, They loose their stinger and some parts on the back, Maybe it could have been injured by other scorpions competing for a mate?


One last suggestion I could give would be one of the banded wolves from the Exiles Reach Intro, Mayhaps as a bandaged/veteran war wolf? Though this would lock you into being either a human or orc (Unless you got a race swapper, Please blizzard make the ones from the island expeditions tamable)

I want one of those banded wolves for her so baaaaaaaad. She's a vulpera, though, and already in the 50s to boot. I like that crystal scorpion idea! Def was considering albino animals as well - I know from experience that sometimes albino pets can come with minor impairments connected to their albinism. True albino rats, for example, often have vision issues.
