YAY we are back!! thanks Wain !!!!!!

Had alot of 502 this afternoon and evening.

I'm not sure what's going on with it right now. I contacted the server owner 8 hours ago but he's out of town again ☹ I'm hoping it corrects itself.

Of all the luck, our server owner is out of town right as this happens.. again

I have made enquiries with a new web host. I've been hesitant to do so because the site code and databases are old and may be complicated to host these days. But hopefully they'll be easy to move over, even if I have to work on updating the code.

I've also been hesitant because of potential hosting costs. We're currently being hosted for free by someone who was a friend of Mania. Maybe new hosting costs won't be much. I just worry because my work has been... sparse for a couple of years now and it's not like the sites' meagre Google ads bring in much. But hopefully it's manageable. I'll keep you updated as I find out more

Lots of 502 today too sadly

I couldn't access the site at all last night.

It seems to be more stable now, but I don't want to jinx it. Cross fingers.

This board is a few software updates behind now, so I might update it in a few days. After the recent instability I don't want to create more turmoil, but I did read that sometimes legitimate bots/crawlers from search and archiving sites can cause huge latency problems if they're not covered in the current set of bot handlers, so updating the software will help reduce the risk of that.

phpBB's software updates are still awful to install, like 1990s-level of requiring you to manually move and delete things, so I don't want to create disruptions by updating it for every minor release.

Sounds like it might be time to just go ahead and get it updated. We'll understand any disruptions it may create. <3
