I’ve noticed this, too. I’ve reported it to our server owner and hopefully it’s an easy and quick fix. I should have posted something here to let you know it’s a known issue.

It seemed to return about... 2 days ago? I'm not sure what's causing it. Hoping the server owner can help.

I may have to move the site to a new host but first I need to secure official ownership of several things that Mania and I never finalised (because it was never an issue and seemed too much effort at the time so we never got around to it). Her husband has been very nice but it's not finalised yet.

Oof, yeah it's been really bad the past couple days, I can't get the forum to load at all on like 90% of refresh attempts. Sorry to hear it might be a server issue Wain, take your time if you need to, I still love that you keep this place because phpBB boards are very nostalgic and I have a lot of fondness for this preserved corner of our community!

It looks like our server issues have been fixed for now.

The owner of our server originally believed it was because our server is old (which is definitely is) and dying (which is going to happen someday), but he just found out our server was actually being spammed by some subnodes on another network. Whether this was a deliberate malicious attack or just something else he can't say. But he's blocked them for now and the issues immediately stopped. Hopefully they'll stay that way!


We still have to find a new home, but at least there's no immediate rush now. Our server owner has only been hosting us as a favour (he's a friend of Mania and her husband) and he understandably no longer has time to maintain the rapidly ageing server. Nor would I want him to.

Moving isn't a trivial change, especially since I have no experience in setting up a website on a new server from scratch. But I'm seeking good advice and hopefully I'll have help. It's times like this I miss Mania more than ever.

Also, in my effort to clean up the disk today (in case having more space helped) I accidentally deleted this forum database, which is why the forums were down entirely for some hours. But fortunately we had a very recent backup. I'm not sure if any posts are missing, but if so it should be very few and hopefully nothing too important. I'm sorry for all the inconvenience and doubly sorry if any posts are gone In my defense, the database was named "wowpetopiaforums_old" which was very misleading

Heads up that the issue appears to have started again. The site was fine until roughly 5 minutes ago as of this post, then began lagging with the occasional Bad Gateway warning.

Quick update to say that, as of this post, the site's been stable again.

No worries! It was a short blip and any lag I've had since was on my end. I wanted to mention it since it was right after the previous fix, but has been fine since

Short one this morning, 2-3 minutes

Roughly 10-minute Gateway blip with occasional timeout before posting (4:36pm - 4:44pm).
Seems stable again as of now.

This might be related to the increase in bots scraping / stealing data from sites for AI BS.
