Unlisted Pet: Guardian of the Leaf

Noticed a rare NPC not listed on Petopia; Guardian of the Leaf. It's a rarespawn in Torghast, everyone's "favorite" vacation spot. I personally have not tamed it myself since it keeps assuming I don't want it to spawn, so I can't verify if it keeps its name or not, but it should since all the other rares (which I saw while trying to find this one) kept theirs. Guardian of the Leaf uses the "Black & Purple Runestag w/ Backswept Horns" appearance of runestags. The easiest way to find it, in theory at least, is to get to floor 4 of the Jailer's Gauntlet, since that floor summons a bunch of rares, sometimes multiples of the same one. I've seen every rare except for this one, amusingly enough.

Anyone want to bash their heads against the wall and run Choreghast a few hundred times to see if they can get it to spawn? I don't want to assume it doesn't spawn anymore, but at the same time, I did the gauntlet 53 times (yes, I counted) and failed to find it. Wowhead only shows a few locations, but the gauntlet ignores spawn locations for every other rare, so I assume that I've just had rotten luck.
EDIT: It's April 11th, and I've STILL not found this NPC. Is it even still in the game? I've seen every other possible rare, but not this one.
EDIT: It's still April 11th, and I found it finally. Unfortunately, it's the ONLY Torghast rare that does NOT keep its name.

Bumping because I found the rare after enough runs to be in the triple digits. Updated the first post with a screenshot.
- Not listed on Petopia as of April 11th 2025, 9:34 EST
- Does not keep its name when tamed (only tameable Torghast rare that has this flaw)
- Uses the "Black & Purple Runestag w/ Backswept Horns" Runestag appearance in the Stag family

Also, a random tangent:
Gushing Mawrat is NOT tameable. It is listed tameable via Beast Lore, but is already controlled by the rare NPC Ratgusher.

I wish that they did a fun easter egg where if you kill the NPC in control of a pet, the pet becomes tameable.
Cause like, if I killed its master, it's not bound to said master anymore.
But I know that'd be a lot of retroactive work lol.

Thanks so much for your persistence with this one! I've now added it to the database:

A couple of questions:
- was it really flagged as a rare? Its Wowhead page just says it's elite.
- which wing did you ultimately find it in? Its Wowhead page lists many wings but not the Jailer's Gauntlet. But Wowhead location data aren't always accurate.
(I also changed the tame status of the Gushing Mawrat - thanks!)

Guardian of the Leaf was indeed a rare elite. When I found it, it was in the Adamant Vaults after a "perfect" run, but I ran Skoldus Halls prior to arriving in the vaults. I don't think that matters since the Adamant Vaults are a shared area among all wings, but still. As for Wowhead, the site has had a lot of incorrect and inconsistent info on pets recently, especially for most of 11.1 when 99% of pet info was blatantly incorrect; most pets were not listed as tameable, many were the wrong family, and so on. Whatever Wowhead did, they screwed up hard. It's fixed now, but that was what got me interested in checking things out. Guardian of the Leaf just happened to catch my eye because I like to tame "Guardian" pets after the horrendous trauma I have from leveling a neutral panda to verify Guardian of the Elders way back when we needed level 60+ to tame exotics, and it's yet another "Guardian" that fails to keep its name, which saddens me.

Thanks!
I've also added it to our list of recommendations for name retention:

I forgot that page existed, wow. Also, I can vouch that two of the three at the bottom of that list are outdated; Molten Leadspike and Tephratennae both fail to retain their names. I'm fairly certain Tephratennae was confirmed multiple times by others as well. Molten Leadspike is almost always up, so it's easy to check it as well.
I'll go farm islands before servers go down for maintenance to see if I spot it.
EDIT: Couldn't find Sand-Eye before servers went down. I'll farm more when servers come back up later today.
