I just spent an hour perusing the new talent trees on mmo-champion. :D

http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/186 ... uild-12479 <= has links to them all
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?# <= is 'dem. :D

I dunno if Intimidation really compares to Aimed or Explosive as a level 10 skill though... Thoughts?

I would have to agree. It seems a bit lacking compared to the two shots.

I suppose it might ease leveling by giving BM hunters a form of crowd control, but on the other hand BM hunters are always far less likely to need that kind of CC than the other two specs... they don't pull aggro off their pets as much. I dunno, I'm underwhelmed. :|

I'm also pretty underwhelmed by the new talent tree's in general. But yeah, we got kind of screwed on the level 10 ability. As I said in another thread, we do get Kill Command at level ten, but...so does everyone else.

Intimidation at low levels is pretty amazing for soloing. Having an interrupt for healers is VERY nice. And that means in PvE too.

Considering that BM has very little in the way of utility, I think this is honestly the best thing Blizzard could offer.

I'm going to be delicate here because I don't want to start another war, but I have to disagree. Marksman get a now HEAVY hitting cast shot, SV get their token 51 point talent heavy hitting shot, and we get a 3 second stun on a minute/40ish second cooldown. It's good for interupting casters, but it falls pretty hard as CC. It's pretty good at picking up any incidental aggro you have. I just don't think it really compares to either the new aimed shot and it definitely can't touch explosive shot.

That actually brings up another gripe. I absolutely ALWAYS take aimed shot, and now I can't. *Growls*

You take aimed shot for the mortal strike ability, though, right? That's being removed and turned into widow venom.

Feel free to be a glass half empty sort regarding intimidation. That ability has bailed me out numerous times in the past, so I personally see value in it. Aimed shot is now just an opening shot, so it's going to be less used than it is now.

I wouldn't worry too much about the starting talent.. you will fly by that anyway.

What's really interesting is what the new talent mixes will be. BM might be avoiding the MM tree entirely. (I started a new thread to discuss that).

The boys at EJ are less than enthused at this point as well.

I also take it for the instant cast, which is also very obviously gone now too. And it isn't that I don't think it's useful, I just don't think it's as useful as Explosive shot. I will concede aimed though for the most part, even though it does do a lot more damage now, ideally I don't think it'll be used a lot now, since it doesn't regen focus like cobra or steady.

Explosive shot went from being non-existent to being The Shot That Defines the Survival Tree. It's the most natural choice for the survival ability, since no other spec of hunter would ever have it anyway. Aimed shot is back to being a mana (now focus) sink in return for a big burst of damage. Sure, survival seems to have gotten the "best" of the three, but considering what else they have in their tree, there's really nothing else they could have gotten there.

Not really disagreeing there. Possibly black arrow, but that's about it. I would say I wish that MM had gotten Chimera and that Aimed shot had been left in tree, but most likely it'd be to far down to get now.

Black arrow isn't really a soloing talent, though, so it wouldn't make sense.

Chimera would be RIDICULOUSLY overpowered at level 10, in all honesty. I love it to death, but even without a powering up sting, it hits hard.

Mind you, I'm a terrible hunter, but I am loving the idea of having Intimidation at level 10.

I dont use intimidate at all, so I am feeling pretty disapointed with it. Not impressed with alot of things they've done to the tree's...Hunter, resto druids are getting f**'d over with the tree form change. I am not happy at all with the new tree's...

Tbh, Explosive Shot and Aimed Shot are ridiculously overpowered compared to Intimidation. Because while Intimidation is a nice if very poor stun, in certain situations. On some mobs. Some of the time. When you're soloing. It has a 1 min CD and only lasts for 3 seconds. It doesn't work on bosses, it generates a crapload of threat. The only use I have really done for it, outside of PVP is as I said to get my worm to have more aggro, or on the rare times sacrificing a pet saves a healer.

Outside of that, er, what?

Intimidate is Situational at best. And while others may be happy to level with a stun, this is the same as giving Holy/Ret/Prot Paladin's a STUN while the other two trees got damaging/healing talents.

Intimidate is not a damaging talent.

IT is at best now a PVP talent.

BM should have gotten Tame Exotics as our lv 10 mastery. Demonology Warlocks get a Felguard. Frost mages get their Elementals. Unholy Deathknights get their Ghouls.

And what does BM get?

Laughably, a stun.

*sigh*

Intimidate is really used for soloing and questing, much like the abilities other classes get at that level. The boosted threat is vital for a BM in questing, as the pet needs to hold aggro and do a lot of damage. I think it's perfectly fine for the level 10 ability.

The thing is, it's relatively useless. The others get shots, that are useful in any situation, soloing, grouping, PvP. Intimidate is only moderately useful for soloing, and somewhat when PvPing, and it's cooldown is far too long.

It's underpowered compared to what everyone else gets.

But nobody else gets a pet that does such large amounts of damage and has such a synergy with the Hunter. You can't have a big personal damage item plus a big damage pet.

To add to what Saturo responded to this with; BM doesn't really need added Threat half the time. Do you know what needs additional pet threat most of the time? Yep. SV and MM. I finally had to respecc one of my MM hunter's once she hit 60, because I was sick and tired of my pets never holding aggro, even when I was just using auto shot n serpent sting.

BM rarely actually needs the stun. And Intimidate does no additional damage at all.

All it is, is a 3 second stun for a 1 minute cooldown.

We could have gotten Tame Exotics.
