Diseased/damaged pets?

With Welcome-bear and various injured wolfs out there, I have a question. What's the appeal? I'm sometimes tempted to get a Welcome-bear, because it reminds me so much of vanilla and going to Plaguelands for the first time. But I can't. I can't bring myself to walk around with an injured/damaged/diseased pet, because then it would feel like I'm neglecting them, letting them go around injured. Yes, I'm weird. Am I the _only_ weird one though?

I'm thinking the same about that.

I had a Felpaw Ravager from Felwood for the longest time on my first hunter before wrath came out and liked it. At the time I was the only ally on Uldaman US that used that skin as a full time pet and had a running joke with my guild about how blizz needed to put a vet in game for me. I had gotten tons of comments and questions about how I got it and stuff, guess people never really thought that it was the same wolf you kill from lvls 50-60 lol.

I guess the appeal to me was that it looked like we had been in a lot of battles together and we both got some war scars but that a lot of it had been good memories. I never felt like I was mistreating or neglecting her, I just thought of it as that's what happens when you go and tank Doomwalker for the hell of it. lol.

I prefer live, healthy animals. I know some love their diseased wolves, so I'm not going to knock them ;)
But I want to take the poor things to a vet!

I can definitely see why some people might like the skin, and as Autumnshot said, it adds RP potential. It also adds a lovely variety to the game.
On the other hand, I don't like the diseased look myself. I don't think it's that I feel like I'm neglecting my pet, it more just... aesthetics, you know?

The diseased skins just appeal to me visually. I'm a fan of creepy, macabre things as a whole so I've always adored the awesome zombie pets we get.

I kind of like the idea of an undead pet, but the diseased skins don't really appeal to me. I'd be all for a skeletal windserpent, but a wolf with wounds? Not really.

If I could play and undead hunter, I would love to have the diseased pets.

^ hit it right on the nail... since I was young I've always loved the macabre so, Snarler < Diseased Pup by far... speaking off....'sets Snarler free back into Feralas for Diseased Pup Precious'

Now...if they'd make a diseased Cat to round out the furries :?: That'd be wonderful...

I would be ecstatic to see more diseased animals join the ranks besides the wolf, bear, and piggy.
/wishes

Anyhoo, I don't go around thinking that I have an injured animal in pain. I figure they're zombies. They don't feel it. It's just a badass undead bear that's going to come mess you up. xD

I like the appearance of some of them. On others I just feel like they MUST be in pain. But for like, the black diseased bear, it more looks cosmetic to me: like a brutish, tough beast who's been hurt and scarred from it. The gooey blind-looking eyes of the Felpaw wolves just make them look more eerie imo. My guildmate has one named Itch and I love it <3

But the arctic bears for example, like those in Dragonblight--their hind legs are yellow, compared to the white of their coats, and it honestly looks to me like they're covered in maggots. I can't use one JUST for that, even though I love that bear's face.

In the end, with mine, I see it as taking a sick bear or wolf and slowly bringing it back to health. But the physical effects of its illness are long-standing and may take years to 'heal,' or never at all--but merely affect the animal's appearance.

I'm with Saturo on the skeletal windserpent. I would tame that. Or if those new skeletal raptors were tameable. And, I'm fascinated with the undead mummified looking eagles up in Icecrown. Those are just awesome.

Eee, yes! I was hoping those would be tameable back when they were first glimpsed. Perhaps Blizzard will add one type of them to the Carrion Bird family as a new 'undead' pet?

I always figured the bone windserpent or the mummified carrion birds could count as spirit beasts, if they made new ones. I know I've ranted about this before, but if it's an 'undead' or 'ghostly' beast, who says they all have to be PRETTY? Ghost stories and old haunted tales are full of ANGRY, UGLY spirits that want to wreak vengeance on the world for whatever caused them to be the way they are in the first place.

To that end I could also see the diseased animals being similar. Diseased spirits, or a physical manifestation of bad things happening.

Of course it also has plenty of RP potential. Say your hunter tames one of these poor, injured animals and nurses it back to health. Once the wolf/bear/boar has been well fed, rested, and gained trust for its master, you can swap it out with the 'normal' version of the same skin and voila! Story!

With Undead hunters, it would make sense to have more undead looking pets for them.
I also like your idea of the ghost story spirit beasts, Velkyn.

Love the idea of a vengeful ghost spirit beast. How awesome would it be to have one with tattered bits flowing behind it, perhaps with some rattling chains as accessories.

I was using a Northrend Wolf for the longest time, and as wolves became THE raid pet more and more, I was really getting tired of him. So as my guild began working on the LK fight, I had the idea of switching to a "battle damaged" pet, a pet who had seen the ravages of war with the LK and yet remained by my side. It gave it some life and flavor again, and was a welcome change of pace from the identical wolves everyone else used.

Oh, and the week I changed to my new "damaged" wolf was the same week as our first LK kill, so I like to think it was all his doing lol

For me, it's the colors. I'd love to see a diseased red crab with barnacles that ooze green, for instance. But I find the current ones kind of boring.

Yeah I dunno why I love em so much, but I wouldn't give up my Rottie (plauged wolf) for nothing. :)
