Haste requirement for the King?

Unread post by eyeball »

So I was just curious as to how much haste you guys think would be required to tame King Krush. I know there probably isn't a definitive amount and that a lot of the tame depends on luck, but for everyone that tamed him, I was just wondering how much haste you actually had (including gear, pots, food, procs, etc.) I am currently sitting at around 1,636 haste with buffs, pots, and the use of my trinket, and I was wondering if you guys think that will knock my cast time down enough.
Thanks for the help.

Alright, I've been on the hunt for this guy going on 10 days now. I'm going to compile all my information here to help both myself and others.

Things you're going to need before you start:

*
Thorny Rose Brooch from The Shadow Vault; have it equipped in your first trinket slot.
*
Potion of Speed
*
Elixir of Mighty Fortitude
*
Elixir of Lightning Speed
*
Scroll of Stamina VIII
*
Buy a bunch of Imperial Manta Steak and keep the Well-Fed buff on yourself at all times.

Before you start, respec: Not only into the 51-point talent (duh), but Survival Instincts, Survivalist, Aspect Mastery, and Endurance Training. I'd also pick up Pathfinding solely because it makes your flyer a bit quicker, which may make all the difference.

You're definitely going to want an epic flyer for this--rounds take about 4 minutes with one. Follow his spawn points like this while spamming the /tar macro:
/tar king
/tar aotona
/tar loque

If you're a miner, or even a herbalist, expect to make tons of gold here as well. In less than a week I made enough off mining to buy my sister her epic flyer and make her join my search (muahahaha).

The first time I saw him was around 5:20pm server time, and unfortunately he was killed at (62,83), near the southernmost gorillas. He was walking south when I saw him at first. This was on a Tuesday, and the servers came up at 1pm.

The next day I ran across him around 4:35pm, but he, unfortunately, was also killed, this time at (47,44), walking from east to west.

EDIT 3/2: Ran across him this morning at (60,82) around 6:36am, as an orc hunter was killing him.

EDIT 3/3: Found him dead at (28,53), which is just a little west of Nesingwary's--he was probably kited, but still, it's not on the map--at 8:52pm server time.

EDIT 3/7: Tamed him at (66,77) at 12:29pm server time. Even without Serpent Sting he didn't hit me much during the 15.5 second tame--left me with 8k health out of 23k and a big green dino. :D Before the tame, I'd bought myself a full Icy Scale set and pimped it out with +stamina and +haste gems.

An interesting thing to note is that there was a rolling restart on my server at 8:30am; my sister and I circled the Basin from 11:30am to 2:30pm, 3-6 hours, and no sign of him, although we certainly would have seen a corpse. Maybe it's 3-7 hours, as people have said? Well, if you find his body, take a 3-hour break and rest for a while, at least.

I've made the following macros, and they bring the taming down to about 15.6 seconds and ensure you won't get feared. Place them all near each other, and somewhere where you can execute them in the correct order--if you're anything like me, you'll be too panicked to think straight.

To buff yourself:
/use Elixir of Lightning Speed
/use Scroll of Stamina VIII

And also, after the cooldown on the Elixir:
/use Elixir of Mighty Fortitude

To immediately activate Bestial Wrath and simultaneously get rid of your trash pet:
#showtooltip Bestial Wrath
/cast !Bestial Wrath
/script PetAbandon()

To use your Thorny Rose Brooch and Potion of Speed, and begin the tame:
/use Potion of Speed
/use 13
#showtooltip Tame Beast
/cast !Tame Beast

I know that Loque'nahak is said to be the biggest prize in the Basin; it took me a week to find him as well. But several of Loque's spots are discreet, and he has the decency to stay put and not attack anyone--not to mention he can be CC'd. Krush, meanwhile, is 50 feet tall, aggressive, hits like a truck, patrols, and requires major preparation. And I have yet to see a hunter with him on my server.

I hope I find him myself soon. Good luck to the rest of you who want this awesome pet!

Also, thanks to Garwulf for his awesome guide, off of which most of this is taken, and being the inspiration for my madness by posing his taming video on YouTube.

after attempting tames for King Krush around a dozen times, with and without help, i was able to get him about a month ago...being an orc, all i did was gem a set of T9 gear for haste, enchant cloak n boots with haste, dropped a frost trap to slow im down, imperial manta ray steaks, use Elixir of lightning reflexes, 'triumph emblem' haste trinket(sorry forgot the name),potion of speed, and with BW cast right b4 abandoning Aotona, my cast time went from 20 secs to 9.4.....i was at max tame distance, by the time i finished taming him, he still hadnt reached me yet and no damage what so ever...was adrenaline pumped for a few hrs just from getting im.....after all those failed attempts, i couldnt believe how easy it went...
