Deathwing Gains a Voice

(shamelessly stolen from this WoW.com article)

So, seems like Deathwing has been given a voice. Youtube clip hither. *Spoilers!* Sounds distinctively Metzen to me... which kinda makes sense, as he is thought to have voiced Nefarian too. Is it just me, or does Nefarian sound more badass than his daddy? Listen for yourself. I dunno... Something about Deathwings voice just sounds... off. I think Blizz just abused the Flanging/echo effect a bit too much. maybe I'm beign a bit too picky. What do you guys think?

At least he doesn't share his voice with the male blood elves >.>

Get up little red wyrm, and destroy them!

I've got nothing against Metzen, I think he's a great voice actor, but I can't help but hear Thrall. I kind of wish they'd expand their voices since using Metzen for everything makes all these characters sound the same. x)

He sounds quite threatening. But, I was expecting something more "dragon-y" somehow. Not sure exactly what that would be.

Yeah...the echoy thing irks me too.

The echoes are a bit overkill, yeah.

Metzen has a really wonderful voice. xD His characters do sound quite a lot like each other, though, so he shouldn't be overused, lest they all sound the same.

Actually I think it fits- since Deathwing wouldn't really be built the same as any other dragon. Since he's like magma. With dragon skin.

... I mean I remember reading about Deathwing on Wowwiki and evidently after this happened, he still attempted to breed his consorts and um.. they er... kinda all died.. except one. So yeah...

the echo makes sense imo >.>

Oh yeah that he does. And it is hard to change the tone of your voice constantly probably, mean it sounds like he's trying to not make himself sound like Thrall/Nefarion. And he is a good voice actor to boot too but..

Blizz should cast more talent.

Well, true, it makes sense; not contesting the need for AN echo. I just think there's a touch too much of it.

Exactly! And I mean, the man has a very distinctive voice - no matter what he does to change his tone (which he did), he still sounds like himself on some level. xD

I know how you feel, I half expect him to welcome me to Orgrimmar... Or to Stormwind for that matter. I suppose since he's Grand Chief Pooh-bah of lore (that's his official title) he can choose to voice any character he wants. But a little variation would be especially nice too.
I'm trying to think who I'd pick to voice him actually. The late, great Orson Welles would have been perfect.... For that matter, I could happily live with Leonard Nemoy too. *cough*

No, this isn't just an excuse to nostalgia-gasm over Transformers.

Mmmm, I see your point. And I do enjoy the echo voice if done well. It just seems to me like they try to drown Metzens' voice with it to make it seem different. No offence to Mr. Metzen of course. As many here have stated, he's a fantasic voice actor, just a little overused it seems.

The best part of overusing Metzen's voice is that his voice is really one of the definitive WoW voices. Still, they shouldn't ALL sound like him....and they don't.

Sure it's not ;) Orson Welles did a great Unicron...fit perfectly with a big old planet eater heh.

As for the voice clip...that sounds ok for human form, but I think his dragon voice needs to be deeper.

I vote they use the VA for the Weasel in I Am Weasel.

And kalliope; I wasn't trying tio start an argument or anything from it. I was just saying that was probably why they used the echo effect so heavily. Since it's honestly better than a dragon shouting like a giant Murloc.

The magma and all.

Or maybe something's happened to Deathwing that caused this? O.o

After getting used to the sound a bit, Deathwing actually sounds pretty appropriate. I stared at a picture of him this time while listening and I could HEAR his size.

Just had to get used to it. :D

(Hilariously, I was in the midst of posting this when you replied, Ryai, teehee!)
