Your pet name Meanings?

So who else names their pets to have outlandish meanings? Or maybe ones that pertain to PvP/raiding or the beast itself? Or maybe it's just a plain name you liked, but still has another meaning behind it? I have Shirotora (white-tiger) for Gondria, Saburo (the third-born son, as he was the 3rd spirit beast) for Skoll, Enma (Lord of Death) for Arcturis, MomentoMori (You know you will die, a Latin phrase) for Loque, and Noble for Krush (because a guildy alerted me when he was up and saved him for me until i was there, which i thought was very nice :) )
A lot of mine are Japanese or have daunting meanings for when i go into PvP :D
What about fellow forum-goers? Do you have a specific language you attune to or meaning you look for when you name a new companion?

Almost all my pets are named after giant robots...I love mecha, so they tend to get named after ones I like. Solaris (Loque) was named after an OC of mine that's very special to me, Nitro (red wasp) is named after a red Transformer, Blackout (black Devilsaur) is named after the big black mean helicopter Transformer from the first live action movie, Mirage (Rak'shiri) is named after another Transformer that could turn invisible, Ironhide (black warpstalker) is named after a rough n tough Transformer, heh. I got various other chars with pets named after giant robots but yeah, that's my theme, usually Transformers.

A lot of my pets are also named after Transformers, but not official ones, rather my own fan made characters. My primary pet, Restore, was named after a Transformer of mine by the same name, who is a doctor, and turns into one of those old 3inch floppy disks. Later on she upgrades and takes on a spider form instead. Soooooo my white spider is named after her :)

Transformers are awesome :)

Let's see....
Gryselde's pets:
Puck the red owl - named for a trickster type fairy, because he was a tricky little guy to tame
Wibbles the worm - it was a Petopia guild event, and someone, I think Veph, said "Name him Wibbles, he can be the Wibbles-monster!" (Wibbles=wb=welcome back) and it just sort of stuck
Linnae the jade owl - named from the scientific name for the twinflower. Her purple eyes are about the color of the blossoms and with her green "feathers" she looks a bit flowerlike to me
Crowle the brown "owl" - an owl that tames as a ferocity Carrion Bird, he's listed as a brown crow here. So, crow + owl + an "e" = Crowle
Tahala the brown tallstrider - comes from "laughing" in Taurahe, which is "tatahalo"

Teigan's pets:
Galileo aka Skoll - Skoll makes me think of storms, skies and things celestial. Galileo was a noted astronomer of old.
Kyndri aka Loque - Kyndri was my ghostsaber who Loque replaced. The name comes from an NPC in Auberdine
Tannok the white worg aka Timber - another NPC name, from Dun Morogh where Timber comes from
Zaynah aka Rak'shiri - suggested by Nevar, who I think said it means "beautiful"
Pepper the black devilsaur - so named because she's got a little bit of a bite :D

Let's see...

Tsavo (Humar): Inspired from the story of the Tsavo man-eating lions.
JubJub (Snapjaw): Just a cute and quirky name for my turtle. Also, the name of Aunt Selma's pet iguana from The Simpsons tv show.
Askari (Imperial Eagle): An African word meaning "soldier".
Kekoa (Ironjaw): Means "brave one".
Ragnar (Ice Steppes Rhino): My rhino has gone through quite a few name changes that is until I stumbled on this name. Ragnar, I found has a few different meanings depending on where the origin comes from with definitions like "judgement", "warrior", and "army" being the most predominant. The meanings enough seemed appropriate and so I think this name will be the final one for my rhino.
Keahi (a red worg): Means "fire". I had originally tamed this wolf prior to Ironjaw but let her go to make room in my stables. I will be acquiring her once again when Cataclysm hits and she'll become Kekoa's mate for RP purposes.

Seraph (Echeyakee): Seraphs are high ranking angels and serve as protectors over the throne of heaven. Seemed befitting of a pet that would serve to protect her mistress.
Evrae (Son of Hakkar): Inspired from a boss in FFX. Evrae serves as the guardian of Bevelle, and ironically, happens to resemble the look of a windserpent.
Ember (Eclipsion Dragonhawk): Pretty, feminine, and appropriate for a dragonhawk's fire breath ability.
Gemini (The Kurken): Bearing the same name as a famous constellation of stars known as "the twins", this name represents each of the two heads of the beast as well as the white luminous glow radiating from its skin (like a star).

Lyra (Death Howl): Just a random name. Since the name itself is related to music, I found it befit the howling characteristics of a wolf.
Sumehra (Mangeclaw): Means "beautiful face".
Kiwi (Strider Clutchmother): Just another cute and quirky name. Also known as a green colored fruit and a type of flightless bird.
Zenith (Olm the Wise): Zenith is the highest point in the sky and seemed appropriate for such a magnificent white owl.
Jadis (Rak'Shiri): This name bears a lot of symbolism for my blue tiger; one being the gemstone jade which comes in a wide variety of colors, one being light blue, and the White Witch character bearing the same name from The Chronicles of Narnia books which remind me of the snow capped mountainous area of Winterspring where Rak'Shiri is originally located.

I won't go into the rest of my pet names but this gives you an idea of how I draw inspiration :o)

Mine are currently....

Rythar, who is the 'green' Warp Stalker. Rythar translates to "jade friend" in some form of Elvish (I think a D&D version? I'd have to find the chart again). It's not technically Thalassian, but sounded close enough.

Melorn, my 'demon hound, is named from 'Felo'melorn' which is Thalassian (from the book Arthas) for 'Flamestrike'. Since Melorn is close to Belore, which means sun, I took it to mean something related to Flame, Fire, etc. which suited him just right.

My third pet is my gorgeous Loque, but I'm still searching for just the right name for her. :D

Oo i like the idea of using game languages. Clever :) I think I'm going to name my Aotona (when i find it) Zazu, after the Lion King. Got the idea from it's colors and, surprisingly, a trade troll:
"What's LK?"
"Lion King, duh."
Hehe.

I don't have a particular name theme; some of them are fantasy-esque names like Stormwraith (my night elf's white worg). Some have personal meaning. Some are partially named after people. Some are mythological. Some are random words that seem fitting; my OCJ for example was named Grim. And some of my orc's pets have/had names that are a certain word as it comes out to Alliance when spoken in Orcish (Thrakk is Heroic, for example, and Raznos is Friend, Zuggossh I think was Guardian, etc). Sometimes I'll use a rare spawn's original name, like Shadowclaw. I also use the pet name generator in my sig for inspiration, getting things like Ripgrin.

Zodiac - I got an epic drop of some kind or other and was very happy. I then popped over to Skoll's spawnpoints and got him as a server-first tame. I said my stars were aligned--hence, Zodiac.

Valak - Priest friend of mine helped me tame Krush. His main's name is Vudak; Valak is the name of a "demon who reveals the hidden location of serpents," so I chose this both for meaning & similarity with the friend's name, in thanks for/honor of his help.

Amonkira - White worg of my orc. This is the name of the "god of hunters" that the assassin Thane Kreos prays to before making a kill in Mass Effect 2.

Demon
- Grunter. Hoping he turns into a Felboar...

Talisman
- Lord Lakmaeran. I don't know why I named him this. It seemed fitting; I wanted a name like a lucky charm or an amulet, something superstitous & magical.

Spectre - ghost saber. 'Nuff said :D

Aquillian's:
Animus (Loque) - The archetype of masculinity in woman; A feeling of enmity, animosity or ill will; An animating spirt.
Anxiety (Skoll) - Just as you'd think... his appearance reminds me of the feeling of anxiety
Borealis (Arcturis) - Because he's as ethereal as the northern lights imo!
Coriander (Krush) - He's green >>;
Ferrum (Old Cliff Jumper) - Old latin word for 'iron'

Ceryle's:
Deius (Albino devilsaur) - Play on the words deity or deus ex machina
Moro (White worg) - After Moro from Princess Mononoke *is a dork*
Zmizet (White warpstalker) - Mean's "to disappear like steam over a pot" or simply "Vanished"... it's a Czech word, my roommate suggested it and I love it

And her other two stable slots are reserved for Aotona and Gondria, who are as of yet unnamed. So I guess my pets are a mixture of unusual and boring names, haha.

I named my Spirit Wolf Xaxas, which is Darnassian for all things dire. "Chaos, "fury", "elemental fury". All those wonderful things

Humm, let's see... this includes pets I have not yet tamed. That counts, right? The meanings generally have some kind of influence to them, such as colour or attitude. Or they go with another pet. I've got some kind of story brewing in my head about Quasar and Nebula, for example. I'm not sure if I'll write it, though...

Opal - Strider clutchmother. Named after the gemstone.
Katja - White bear. If I remember correctly, it means "Purity", or something close to that...
Sini - Dark blue windserpent. It means "Blue". Which reminds me, I need to hustle with my "Stepping Out Of The Box" entry. >_>
Quasar - Frostsaber Pride Watcher. Quasars are far-off galaxies that emit huge amounts of energy, and are also the brightest objects in the universe.
Nebula - Gondria. Nebulas are interstellar clouds of dust or gases. It also means "Cloud" in Latin.

All of my other pets I don't know the meaning of. Or they don't have a meaning.

I generally come up with the pet names when I tame the pets, but Aoani's pet names were going to be inspired by Japanese words until I tamed the last two...

Her beige scorpid from Durotar, was named Aoi after Veph and Sochi suggested it because of the blue under her scales (Aoi means blue). Her clutchmother is Mizu, which means ocean in Japanese, because the vibrant turquoise and orange reminded me of an ocean sunset. Her third pet, Hokori, is a blue moth from Bloodmyst. Hokori means dust in Japanese.

Her 4th and 5th pets are two wind serpents, a blue from Wailing Caverns and red Azzere. The taming story is kinda funny - I was looking for Azzere and not finding her, so Nethral and I decided to go get a blue from WC. The moment I hearthed out, Rexiah announced that she was looking at Azzere so a quick loan for that 5th spot later, and I had two. They're a beautiful pair (I think they're siblings) so I named them after gemstones - Garnet and Lazuli.

Sara's pets are:
Atha - the hydralisk from Sholazar. It seemed appropriate to keep her original name.
Avalon - Arcturis. He seemed so misty and foggy that the name just came to me.
Arashi - Skoll. It means storm in Japanese and I think it has a great ring to it. This fella definitely has a temper. :)
Mizu - clutchmother. I fell in love with her when I tamed her on Aoani, so I went and got her for Sara as well. For some reason, her name just was Mizu. I didn't even contemplate another name.
Oscar - Araga. When I first tamed her, I named her Araga... but it wasn't clicking. I like the model and enjoyed having her with me, but she was lacking personality. Well, by gender changing her to Oscar the underdeveloped lion (he never grew a proper mane, so he's an outcast, shunned by the other lions), he's found his place at Sara's side.

Pets Sara had and is getting back:
Rafa - grey spikey raptor. This was my main pet through most of the past year. I love him. He's named after a good friend.
Gemini - Trachela. I loved this bird, we raided Kara and ZA together. <3 I was very sad when they introduced the pet family skills, hers were underwhelming I found. I'll definitely be getting her back, though I'm not sure if I'll get her orange skin instead.. We'll see.
Tama - the ghostsaber. I was in the process of leveling her when I came across Araga and since it had just been confirmed that the ghostsaber was going to be in Cata still, I decided to go ahead and release her for now. I did really enjoy having her by my side though, so I'll definitely go get her back.

I lurk in TFW2005, but don't really post. I like that site for the news, since they're pretty reliable.

I have a huge list of TFOCs, I'm pretty bad about making them up heh. You can visit my art page in my sig to see pics of them and such.

My other giant robot obsession tends to be Yuusha/Braves, probably cause they're cousins of Transformers. They tend to make the names of my other pets, like Advenger, Dran and Leon (from Goldran). My future worgen hunter will be named Volfogg and have a pet tiger named Gundober and a pet hawk named Gunglue. I have a pally named Exkaiser too, and a druid named Beachcomber (cause he was a hippie, and so are druids, plus they transform too!).

I like my giant sentient robots.
Sarayana wrote:Avalon - Arcturis. He seemed so misty and foggy that the name just came to me.
That's funny, that's my RL name (I usually go by the nickname of Eva-chan tho, inside joke involving giant robots).

Silinrul's pet names are all drow, and come from this database, so they all mean something. But mostly only I know it. XD

Jiaphyon (red hyena)~ Only one not from the database; a combination of drow language words that comes to 'laughing death'
Rhylnar (Loque'Nahak)~ Moon Ghost
Altonin (Skoll)~ Lightning Lord
Felyndril (White Devilsaur)~ White Knight
Dhaundax (Plagued Swine)~ Plagued Nomad

My other pets for Taigi are mostly named on a whim though and don't have as much meaning to them.

Heh. I haven't heard of anyone using it as a name before. I'd be curious to ask your parents what their inspiration was. :)

I took it from this series. I used to read it over and over as a kid. <3

Loque'nahakwas renamed Daishi. Literally means "great death" in Japanese but also in Buddhism means "silent master". I named him that due to the fact that after looking for him for months, he finally tamed me.

King Krush was renamed Daikaiju. It roughly translates to "non humanoid giant monster" in Japanese. Perfect name for a Devilsaur! :D

My Ancient Core Hound was renamed Garmr. In Norse mythology, Garmr is a hound whose howling heralds the coming of Ragnarök.

My Vargul Blighthound was renamed Mxyzptlk. Named him after the DC character due to its impish personality.

and lastly Mazzranache was renamed Fabulous. No explanation needed there. ;)
