I always have a theme for all my pet names on a hunter. One has pet names from a particular novel, my dwarf's pet names are all beer related, one hunter's pet names are poker related, etc. This is easy to do with just 5 pets, but I'm not sure what to do when we can have 25. I'm considering using names inspired by minerals/gems. Anyone else decided on a theme for cataclysm?

I was thinking of having Stereoptic's pets renamed after various superconductors, but I'm kinda' meh on that now, since you can't have numbers in petnames.

Hmm, I'm not sure about the full 25, but I've thought of various themes. For myself, I'm starting a hunter who will have 7 pets, each representing one of the Deadly Sins.

Other random ideas:

Months: 12 pets, each could perhaps be themed toward the seasonal tendency of the particular month
Rainbow/Spectrum: Pets named after colours (and obviously each being the colour of their name)
Food: (self explanatory)

I think the gem and mineral idea is really cool as well.

What about having the name of each pet start with a different letter of the alphabet.

Before you say KARMA. COUNT RIGHT. 26 LETTERS IN THE ALPHABET!!! let me finish. The one letter you won't use as a starting name letter will be the one that your characters' name starts with. For example, my char's name is 'Silinrul,' so the 25 pets would have names beginning with every other letter other than 's.'

I plan on using the Google Language Tool to get the word fox in other languages and then using that to name my foxes. Those will be the only pets I'll name because mastiff, wolf, and bear are good enough names as is.

i like the idea of naming pets afters gems... im thinking of doing that with the rest of my pets when we get the slots there will be a few with some silly/different type names, IE. Ninjasaur.

For some reason I started naming all my pets after rappers, and even though only 3 of them are named as such I think I may kick it up to all 25 when Cata comes out, or at least famous singers. Currently I have Jayzee (raptor), Lupe (short for Lupe Fiasco, an aqua tiger) and Ludacris (the kurken). Don't know why but this theme really appealed to me and I plan to keep it up

Continuing my Greek mythological scheme on Kalliope. Not the most original, but I don't name pets for gods, which is a slight limitation on the theme.

The interesting one to continue will be my Cajun food themed pets on Kallimon. <3 Gumbo.

Idk I normally give my pets old world names, or names ppl don't name their kids anymore

ill do abc's/gems! when i get to a letter that has a gem ( IE, r=ruby, e=emeralds, etc) ill name them that!

Too bad the alphabet is actually 29 letters... You forgot å, ä and ö.

I try to name all my pets after gun makers or models. Derringer, Peacemaker, SmithWest, and so on.

I'm actually experiencing the same issue. All of my pets are named after characters in Connie Willis' Doomsday Book. There aren't 25 names in there...or even close to that many.

Still trying to redo the naming schema. I may just use characters from her other books, or try the alphabetic thing. Maybe both...?
