Okay guys, here's the deal. I had a scarlet hound from the monestary on the beta, alright? New patch, yay!

This is my hyena now:

Yup, dogs. No more hyenas there. Carbon-copies of wolves, at least for the time being, but dogs.

Slaverjaw is for reals, and is little red hyena :3 (terrible picture because someone ganked him away from me while I was still takin' pictures.)

Also apparently in Uldum. hyena crisis averted!

Guess they've changed the Scarlet Hounds. Great news for mastiff fans!

I'm on my way out there now to look, but...

And I'm not going to pout and overreact, but... My red hyena. Gah. Where will they live now?

Was I correct in reading somewhere that there was a Rare hyena somewhere using the red model? (in Cataclysm)

If not we'll have to hope they're located somewhere else. o_o I really like that skin.

I doubt Blizz will make a skin extinct, or risk their hunters freaking out even more. (Cause face it. We're never happy. ) The only real "extinct" skin in the green scorpid, and I'm sure it'll show up. I'm voting Silithus or STV.

I can only hope Blizzard changes the NPC ID of the Hounds before Cataclysm's release. It's one thing, in the case of the Silithids, to have a cool new boss bug model that we may want....but the red hyenas are popular pets which many people have. To think of all those players logging into Cata and their red hyenas being changed to Mastiffs...that isn't right.

I know it's a bit hypocritical of me saying so because I'm hoping Soriid and Haarka keep their new skins, but I don't believe their regular models are as widely spread as a red hyena would be.

Yeah, he was actually the first pet I was coming back for, my little red hyena :/

I'd be more than willing to camp out for it to get him back, but... I guess yay tameable mastiffs for those that want one? Not my thing, but...

i gotta agree with you veph. I do hope they move them somewhere else. i like teh red hyena

Silinrul, my NE hunter, has had a red hyena since level 34. I heard their were red hyenas and just had, HAD, to have one. I made half a dozen plans and braved Scarlet Monastery solo in order to get him. It took over an hour and a very dedicated trash pet who died over a dozen times, but I got my hyena. He's not just 'a popular skin' to me, he's my sentimental pet that I will never give up because he has a personality, a story, and is deeply tied to the core of Silinrul's character.

If they change this...I am going to be upset. SO upset. It'd be like going to school one day and discovering your best friend is a totally different person....>_<

The point is these hunters will have to abandon their lifelong pets and retame them...and no matter if the skin is the same, it wouldn't feel the same as the pet they've had all these years.

I'm truly leaning on the hope that Blizzard will implement new NPC ids for the mastiffs.

NOOOOOOO! They better make it a rare come cata release I will be sitting my happy little butt down to camp the rare red hyena. That's MY Faust they are dealing with he's Nev's best buddy and I love him a lot.... Strangely enough I don't know if I'll be able to let Faust the hound go because he shares the same name and he isn't the hyena anymore but it'd almost feel like I'm abandoning my friend because he got a make over. Oh dear what a predicament I'm in now.

EXACTLY this. Even if a rare spawn red hyena were to show up, and I camped him/her for days and got him....

It wouldn't be the hyena that Silinrul saw being abused by the cruel and rather insane Scarlets, lead out of the Monastery, and earned the trust of. It wouldn't be the hyena that helped her out through hundreds of quests, through two expansions, and all the way to level 80 loyally and unflinchingly. It wouldn't be the pet that saved her life hundreds of times by darting in bravely when she got ambushed by half a dozen mobs. It wouldn't be the pet that helped her earn all those stupid tokens in PVP play so she could earn her first epic mount because she couldn't afford a regular one. It wouldn't be that pet she still had to EARN her way up to loyalty level 6 with back in the day, her best friend and most loyal companion.

It just wouldn't be my Jiaphyon anymore.

Say what?! It's a blue scorpid, IMO.... and nothing you can say will change how I feel about it!!!

Well... blueish-green... ... but not greenish-blue!
