Compairing Pet/hunter deeps (its a chart! :D)

I got bored earlier so I decided to fart around with http://www.femaledwarf.com/ and got a little list of pet deeps. Basically its to show how some common pets scale with raid buffs and gear.
its done with my crappy bm spec in mostly ilvl 232 gear with some raid buffs (common ones)
I know its not exact, but it does give a rough idea.
(id like to do an ungeared/unbuffed and mm/sv versions too for kicks, but I wasn't that bored)

old chart: http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7939/deepsw.png

New charts use best available buffs/debuffs
Image Image Image

Seems to be some glitch/oddity where some pets perform above/below others when they shouldn't.
Spiders should be at the bottom of the cunning chart, and crabs, crocs, and turtles should be at the bottom of the tenacity chart. Ferocity looks fine though.

Finally, a fullproof chart to end the endless arguments in other threads about which pet does the most DPS! I've heard so many different people say "Well Devilsaur is the best." "No no, raptor is actually THE best." "Nah man it has to be wolves." "LOL SPEERET BEESTSTZ FTWZ"

NOWAIZ SPORBATS!!

Well they still rule even if their deeps is low. I was actually kinda surprised that the raptors do so well, I kinda wrote them off cause of the long cd on their ability.

Very interesting! :D

I think you should make a chart that lists them from highest DPS to lowest, for ease of comparison.

Whoops -- I had thought they were in that order. That explains some of my surprise. :>

Edit: A couple of quick comments:
  1. Unsurprisingly, most ferocity pets are above most cunning pets are above most tenacity pets.
  2. Unsurprisingly, most exotic pets are above most non-exotic pets in their own tree.
  3. There are exceptions.
  4. Since this looks at DPS, I suspect most people are going to be interested in the very top of the chart. However, I am interested in the very bottom. :)

It's good to see a chart that has the different pets listed with a hunter in the same spec and gear. Although there are a few pet families I don't see on there.

Actually it's not quite foolproof because it still depends on your gear and talent choices as well as glyphs and buffs. It's close though to what I get although I show the raptor as slightly beating out the Devilsaur.

My results from the Hunter DPS Spreadsheet (which is what femaledwarf.com is based on) This is with full 25 man raid buffs and the BM spec.

Raptor-------9075.96
Devilsaur-----9061.99
Wolf---------9016.62
Spirit Beast--8877.82
Core Hound--8863.42
Cat----------8808.97

MM spec:
Wolf---------10025.36
Raptor--------9939.17
Cat-----------9903.57

For some reason spiders are beating ravagers, silithids, dragonhawks, sporebats, and serpents by a bit.

must be a glitch there >.<

Here's what I've gotten. Now my gear set-up is poor for bm, but it is the only way I can test every pet species.
Hunter Spec I used. My hunter is in my sig.

NO RAID BUFFS
[overall dps] [pet dps] -species
Ferocity
[3391.79] [1064.59] -Wolf
[3255.79] [983.75] -Carrion Bird
[3269.58] [997.54] -Cat
[3250.01] [977.97] -Hyena
[3250.01] [977.97] -Moth (I don't think the moth ability is applied correctly)
[3293.74] [1021.70] -Raptor
[3232.40] [960.36] -Tallstrider
[3336.58] [1027.76] -Wasp
[3305.94] [1033.90] -Core Hound
[3341.14] [1069.10] -Devilsaur
[3303.44] [1031.40] -Spirit Beast
Cunning
[3186.38] [922.61] -Chimera
[3146.68] [882.91] -Silithid
[3162.41] [898.64] -Bat
[3160.72] [896.95] -Bird of Prey
[3152.68] [888.91] -Dragonhawk
[3151.73] [887.96] -Nether Ray
[3149.16] [885.39] -Ravager
[3131.86] [868.09] -Serpent (I suspect this is broken because serpents actually have a high damage output)
[3151.42] [887.65] -Spider (broken for sure, the spider skill does nothing for dps and should decline actually because of focus usage)
[3156.32] [870.75] -Spore Bat (more effective in mobs)
[3163.91] [900.14] -Wind Serpent
Tenacity
[3127.45] [868.32] -Bear
[3151.93] [888.16] -Boar
[3138.97] [875.20] -Crab (possibly broken)
[3138.97] [875.20] -Crocolisk (does more dps when hit)
[3123.27] [859.50] -Gorilla (does more dps with ability off)
[3135.80] [872.03] -Scorpid
[3138.97] [875.20] -Turtle (broken)
[3111.33] [847.56] -Warpstalker (warp doesn't calculate right)
[3151.63] [887.86] -Rhino
[3392.31] [976.76] -Worm (correct, srsly)

According to this, if my hunter was bm, I should go with a Worm or Wolf.

Well if you manually Time their SR to be used when Cobra Strikes procs, then they get REALLY good numbers, b/c thats a guarantee of the Damage increase, and the spreadsheet looks at highest possible, so it always looks at raptors SR critting, so if you personally guarantee that it'll crit (via Cobra Strikes) then you know you'll get the 10% damage. They seem to have low dps if you set their SR on auto-strike however b/c of low crit-rate and proc chance however.

The best is to put your character into www.femaledwarf.com and test pet dps out yourself. It's different for everyone. For example, when I do this with my character a dragonhawk gives a few more dps over a wind serpent for cunning dps pets.

This just goes to show that each pet can be very good, depending on your play style, spec, and ability. Let's not forget another key factor here... LUCK. Let's face it, as good as some hunters are, they can't guarentee how often they will crit. A hunter will nevert crit 100% of the time, so there is always luck involved when it comes to how many times you will crit, even if you are over 50% crit. same goes for the pet, even though you can use abilites to make pets crit at certain times, you can't make a pet crit every time. So, there is a degree of luck in the pet's individual criting as well. It's all kind of mind-numbing, actually. I mean, the same hunter could do the same experiment 5 times and get different results everytime, because there is so much that the hunter cannot control. 5 different hunters can do the same test and come up with completely different outcomes (which is visible by all the test results we see here). I still don;t see a surefire way to say there is one pet that is the absolute best. Does this give a general idea of which pets COULD / SHOULD give the absolute best dps? sure. Does it prove they will? not really. so, keep testing and keep posting. i will keep reading, but i will aslo keep using my Wasp. he rocks for me.

Even I don't care what the dps will be for my non-exotic pets once we all hit 80. I believe what makes the best team for a hunter is a team of pets you adore not just by their colors or power but just because you love them for what they are. I also believe in the "I want to be an individual" bit, so I am happy with pets that no one else seem to care for anymore although a while back I saw a hunter with the exact same spider that I do.
