Pet skins that are still untameable

A long time ago on Mania's old forums I posted a list of pet skins from tameable families that had no tameable versions. Unfortunately it was lost, but I also posted a briefer list on the WoW Suggestions forums, which I was able recover. I've updated it and out of interest here's what still seems to be untameable. Are there any additions or corrections? Hopefully some more of these guys will appear before the beta is finished.

Warp Stalkers
- WarpStalkerSkinRed: Daggertail Lizard - fiery red guy. Looks amazing, but was removed from the game long before he could be tamed (when Ogri'la went in).
- WarpStalkerSkinBlack: Gezzarak the Huntress, Backbiter . The coveted black skin. I presume she's still untameable but I haven't checked.

Serpents
- SerpentSkinViolet: Slad'ran Viper - bright crimson, same as Oracles egg minipet. Only beast with this skin is an untameable add during the Sla'dran fight in Gundrak. Haven't checked in the beta.
- SerpentSkinOlive: Spitting Cobra. Only snake with this skin is in Gundrak. Still untameable.
Any skins using the realistic ("python") snake model. Some of the newer beta additions have diets but are still untameable. In some older cases one NPC can use multiple skins so it's possible that these might exhibit the colour-changing bug if made tameable. Examples are below:
- SnakeSkinBlack: Serpentbloom Snake. The Shadow Serpent in Shadowmoon Valley also uses this skin but with an eerie aura. Not sure if that would persist if it was tamed.
- SnakeSkinBrown: Dune Rattler in the Cataclysm beta.
- SnakeSkinDarkGreenYellow: Adder (critter).
- SnakeSkinGreen: Slad'ran Constrictor.
- SnakeSkinRed: Crafty Snake.
- SnakeSkinRedWhiteBlack: Twilight Serpent in Nagrand, Sand Slitherer in Tanaris in the Cataclysm beta.
- SnakeSkinWhite: Deviate Python (ignore the first pic of the green snake, the skin is white).

Dragonhawks
- DragonHawkSkin04: Sunblade Dragonhawk - beautiful blue dragonhawk from Sunwell. Haven't checked this in the beta, but unlikely to have been made tameable.
- DragonHawkSkin07: Sagan - awesome dark grey/black dragonhawk that currently only exists as an NPC's pet in Netherstorm.
- DragonHawkSkin06: Dawnblade Dragonhawk - another grey/black dragonhawk, only exists as a mount that the enemy ride on Isle of Quel'Danas that then spawns as a corpse on the ground.

Wasps
- SilithidWaspBossSkin5: like the Sapphire Hive QUeen but psychedelic green. Only used by Princess Huhuran (not a beast) in AQ40.
Any of the 4 standard silithid wasp skins that are currently untameable. A 5th (tan) one was just made tameable in the beta, so it's promising that more will be. Examples of each are:
- SilithidFlyerSkinBlue: Hazzali Wasp
- SilithidFlyerSkinPurple: Centipaar Stinger
- SilithidFlyerSkinWhite: Hive'Zara Wasp
- SilithidFlyerSkinYellow: Gorishi Wasp

Cats
- TigerSkinBlackGem: Blackmaw (npc pet), Swarming Guardian - looks like a spirit beast, but in black! Spawns during Auriaya fight in Ulduar and is confirmed untameable in beta.
- TigerSkinGreen: Corrupted Cat, Corrupted Saber - freakish green/orange cats from Felwood.

Nether Rays
- NetherRaySkinPurple: Aether Ray - the only ray skin that has no tameable version. Still untameable in beta.

Wolves
- MagehunterBlue: Azure Mage Slayer etc. Blue version of the tameable (red) Vargul Blighthound.
- MagehunterGreen: Plagued Felbeast etc. Green version of the tameable Vargul Blighthound. Currently only used by a demon during Battle for the Undercity quest.
- WolfSkin_Ghost: used by wolf spirits (some listed as Beasts) such as Ancestral Wolf Spirit. Once tameable through a trick, which was then removed. Enh. shaman now use it for their summoned pet, so unlikely it'll be back.
Any of the 5 plaguehound/darkhound skin colours. These would look especially good with Forsaken hunters. Unfortunately none are classed as Beasts, though there's no reason some couldn't be. Examples of each are:
- HoundSkinBlue: Cursed Darkhound.
- HoundSkinGrey: Deathshadow Hound.
- HoundSkinPurple: Bayne.
- HoundSkinRed: Bloodhound.
- HoundSkinWhite: Billie.

Carrion Birds
- CarrionBirdSkinOutlandBlue: Angered Arakkoa Protector - bright blue Outland vulture. Still untameable last I checked.

Birds of Prey
Any of the 3 parrot skins that are currently untameable (the blue Aotona skin was already tameable, ParrotSkinGreen and ParrotSkinCrimson were just added to Thousand Needles in the beta). Examples of each are:
- ParrotSkinRed: Defias Companion - red/blue, used as an attack pet by the Defias
- ParrotSkinLavender: Skywing (friendly quest NPC) - white/purple/blue
- ParrotSkinOrange: Nyuni (friendly NPC's pet)- green/black/orange

Bears
- BearMountSkinBlack: Amani Bear. Same as the Amani bear mount.
- NorthrendBearMountSkinWhite1: Brunnhildar Riding Bear.

Raptors
- any "riding" skins (minus saddle). Quite distinct to the other wild forms as they use a model with a horn on their forehead. Drakkari Raptor Mount is a really nice example.

Core Hounds
- VoidTerrorSkinBlack: Hound of Culuthas, Void Terror, etc. Currently only demons in the game, but very obviously related to core hounds, but with more eyes! They have the fiery breath, so would fit that family perfectly if a non-demonic one was tameable.
- DraekodonSkinChromatic: Chromaggus. Really awesome "reptilian" core hound relative. But probably not gonna happen.

Crocolisks
- "Ghostly" skin used by the Spirit of Ha-Khalan (which was unintentionally tameable at one point). This is actually just an albino croc skin that has had some sort of transparency effect added to it and could technically be the done for any type of beast.

Worms
- Larva (i.e. whole-body) skins based on JormungarSkinGreen (Acidmaw) or JormungarSkinPale (Jormuttar).

And out of interest, here are the ones I previously had listed that seem to have become tameable in the beta:
- WarpStalkerSkinGreen: Previously only used by Phase-Hunter in Arcatraz. Now one of the trench stalker skins (and they added a brand new blue skin as well!).
- SilithidWaspBossSkin: Sapphire Hive Queen - once again tameable!
- SilithidFlyerSkinTan: The first tameable regular silithid wasp skin, used by Silithid Wasps added to Thousand Needles.
- RidingTigerSkinWhiteNoSaddle: Now the Night Elf starting pet, listed in cata.wowhead as "Young Cat". But will anyone else be able to tame it??
- ScorpionskinDarkIron: formerly just the mechanical Arcano_Scorp, now used by the tameable Duneclaw Broodlord in Tanaris.
- CarrionBirdSkinOutlandGreen: formerly only used by the untameable Torgos - now used by Bonepicker Felfeeders and Spiteflayer (rare) in Blasted Lands.
- MineSpiderSkinViolet: The purple spider. Dread Creepers in Naxx were always tameable but were level 81. Now confirmed tameable by Petopians.
- bonespider_ochre: Formerly only the untameable Deep Crawler. Now used by tameable Skitterweb Strikers in Silverpine.
- bonespider_brown: Formerly only the untameable Bone Spider. Now used by tameable Skitterweb Lurkers in Silverpine.
- bonespider_slate: Formerly only the untameable Hadronox. Now used by tameable Skitterweb Matriarch in Silverpine.
- ParrotSkinCrimson: red/grey parrot skin used by tameable Monstrous Macaw in Thousand Needles.
- ParrotSkinGreen: green/yellow parrot skin used by tameable Brilliant Clayscraper in Thousand Needles.
- ScorpionSkinBlue: never really missing. On Live only used by Silithid Swarmers and Silithid Creepers in the Barrens, which created concern when they were removed in Cataclysm. But then they added Scorpid Cliffcrawlers to Thousand Needles in a recent beta build.

Don't forget the "wolf" snake, who currently lends to the speculation that pythons will be tameable. :)

Thanks! :) I wondered where the post had gone for a minute, I reached the second page before I realized it was back up at the top ;)

Thanks, yeah, I did mention the "python" snake model in a general way, but I'll go back and list all the various skins for it.

Good call on the ghostly croc skin, but I won't be adding the slime or hydra ;) The purpose of this post was to list untameable skins that belong to actual pet families, and the slime and hydra were a mistaken label that was corrected. If either of those groups become tameable pets (and hydras could well become tameable) then I'll add the ghostly skins to their respective families. Actually, reminds me.. I should add the spirit wolf skin as well (though now enh shammies have that one as their pet I think it's unlikely it'll ever make a comeback).

So I added the ghostly croc and spirit wolf. I've also added more comprehensive skin lists for the plaguehound/darkhound model, the silithid wasps, the python snakes and the parrots. I've also added the two riding/combat bears (both of which exist in the game as free-standing NPCs with no riders).

Chromaggus prolly shouldn't be on the list. He's part dragon and not marked beast. :/

I previously checked the Blight Hound (Hyenas) over in Eastern Plaguelands. Old Nathanial Blightcaller area, though he is gone and there are about 5 or 6 Blight Hounds wandering the area. When I checked last build, they were untamable. I will check on the current build. But I think the "Blight" glow effect should go on any pet that a Forsaken Hunter has since they intend to infect all with a plague anyway.

EDIT: I just checked. The Blighthounds are now Dogs (Mastiff) but are still untamable.

This is a great list!

Aren't some of the hydras marked as 'beast' though?

Yep, but this is only a list of skins for families that are currently tameable. If Hydras are made tameable then I'll add all skins that aren't available to this list as well :)

Yeah, that skin was a borderline case, as is the demonic skin, but I've included them anyway. They're both basically core hound models with dragon/demon flavouring added. And the fluffy white core hound is just as different to the standard core hound as they are, so it seemed reasonable :) I know Chromaggus isn't listed as a beast, but it's the skin I'm listing; the NPC is just an example. There are quite a few skins in there where the only examples are not beasts (but the models can still easily apply to a currently tameable beast family), like the green wasp boss and some of the plaguehounds.

Well I was going to add Felboar skins, but I've apparently reached the character limit for one post :( I'll add them here instead, until I can work out how to prune my post:

Boars
Any of the felboar skins from Outland. Traditionally these were all classed as demons, but a couple of beast versions are being added in Cataclysm. One is tameable on the beta: Grunter who uses FelBoarSkin (red with black spikes... though he's a regular black boar on Live). The others are:
FelBoarSkinBlack - Felboar (grey with green spikes)
FelBoarSkinBlue - Shard-Hide Boar (blue with grey spikes)
FelBoarSkinGray - Deranged Helboar (grey with orange spikes)
FelBoarSkinYellow - Domesticated Felboar (yellow with black spikes) - these guys are being farmed as domestic pigs... no reason they shouldn't have lost their fel influence and become beasts again!

I agree. It seems better to go by "general look and feel" than hard classifications that are always subject to change; silithids once weren't listed as beasts, silithid wasps still aren't but could be (esp considering their same model is used in Scholazar by the drones), blighthounds and core hounds are both clearly demonic yet are listed as beasts, etc etc.

On those grounds I think Chromaggus makes perfect sense for a wishlist entry.

For years I've been waiting for the green/orange cat from felwood to be tamable. The colours are very troll like AND He-man was one of my favourite shows!! :D

Hopefuly Blizz will remove all of these silly pointless restrictions on tamable beasts on Cata's release.

Winnah's kitten/cat has an awesome colour scheme. After all the help I gave her, you'd think she'd at least be able to give me a potion of whatever she fed her kitten!

Adjusted for the teal scorpid, tan silithid wasp and the two parrots that are now tameable. The list grows shorter!
