A most unexpected pet! [Image Heavy]

Wow, where to start with this one. :D

So, last night a handful of us on Nesingwary congregated in Sholazar Basin to help Kaleos hunt for Loque. There were enough of us so that every spawn point was covered, and I chose the spot in the west by the bones.

I found a little rock to stand on, and thus started the camping. A short while into this a Dreadsaber that was patrolling nearby aggroes on to me, but since I'm on the rock he can't hit me. Hilariously every time he lost aggro he'd just snap right back to me due to his proximity, so I had a permanently affixed kitty. I started joking about him in Guild Chat since it was pretty amusing at the time (Hey, it was late and I'd been into the energy drinks. Everything was funny. xD). As time went by this Dreadsaber still stood there, trying in vain to get to the annoying little blood elf just out of his reach. Almost an hour passed with him glued to me, and I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry at how frustrated he must have been trying to get at me. He was one determined cat!

That's when it started happening. I began entertaining the notion of taming the poor beast. Since letting go of my previously held Soriid the Devourer, I once again had the luxury of the 'revolving stable door'; I had been taming things on a whim. Now, I have never been a cat person in WoW. I just never cared for most of their models, and for some reason they didn't click with me. Even more so, I'm not an orangey/yellow person at all. The colours aren't my taste, so I definitely never wanted to try out a cheetah spotted model.

Nonetheless, after taking pity on this poor frustrated, determined saber I hopped down from the rock and started taming him.

I figured "Sure, why not. He can be my Sholazar buddy for this Loque camp. Lol it's not like I'll keep him!"

Then random silliness ensued, as usual for our Guild camping events. I dawned a 'jungle outfit' that was really just my boots and underwear, later adding a hat.

At some point I decided I'd better give a name to my new kitty, so I did a quick browse online and came across 'Azzam', meaning 'determined' in Arabic. It really seemed to fit, so that's exactly what I called him. Little did I know how attached I was starting to get to my camping companion...

Over the course of the night Azzam's personality became very clear. His actions along with his Pet Emotes were just bizarrely well timed, and there were so many instances that left us stunned or in stitches at how uncanny it was. Gah it was so late and I was so wired on my energy drink that I can't even recall all of them, but maybe someone else remembers. xD

Anyways, in absolute bewilderment I realized how much I'd come to love this sporadically tamed cat. It wasn't just a 'Oh cool, I like this pet more than I thought.', it was completely out of the blue bonding unlike anything I've had since Skorn, to be honest. I'm still stunned at how much this cat means to me. I've heard of tames where people don't think they'll like a pet but it becomes a permanent member of their stable, and this is the first time something so unexpected has happened to me. Of all the WoW creatures that I could click with immediately, a spotted Dreadsaber never ever would have come up in the list of candidates. It really, truly, felt like a fated match. *shakes head in wonder*

Much later in the night I determined to seek out an outfit to suit Azzam, and found out about a rare drop robe from a mob in Redridge Mountains. Kalliope joined me for a fun adventure to the Tower of Ilgalar where we spent hours killing and camping him. I actually was awake until 5am doing this, lol, but I've yet to get the robe. xD I'll keep trying though!

That's awesome, and he's a really pretty cat :D I like the Dreadsaber and Lynx models myself--not a huge fan of the old world cats, or even the lions. I do hope someone else remembers those "uncanny" emotes, I'd love to hear that :P

Also, out of curiosity, was his name actually Dreadsaber after being tamed, rather than Cat? The third pic shows that, but it also looks like the tame had just gone through, so maybe it went Cat just after the screenie. Just wondering XD

Haha, it turned to 'Cat', but I managed to take the screenshot at the exact moment the tame completed, so for that splitsecond when he was still Dreadsaber. ^_^

Kalli might be able to help me remember some of the emote stuff. :D

A lot of last night is still a wee bit fuzzy for me. I recall you giving Azzam a flea bath in the lake nearby and him not scratching so much after that. Apparently he was one itchy kitty before he found you. And he did find you. He was determined to keep swiping at you too, and was very grumbly about the lost opportunity after he was tamed.

I think there was a lot of "Azzam presses his nose into his mistress's hand." And there was something about him toying with critters.

Bleh, still waking up. I set my alarm for hubby as he had to work today and just turned it off afterwards. Let myself sleep until I woke. So I'm still very fuzzy.

Ooh, yes! I remember now. Kalliope and I were at the same spawn point for a while. She was on her shaman and was in Ghost Wolf form. Well, for some reason Azzam started emoting that he was scratching and itching. xD Then Kalli's character began doing the ear-scratch idle animation. We giggled that Azzam had given her fleas, and so I ran and dunked Azzy into the water nearby for a 'flea bath', and Kalli did too. Oddly enough, after we did that we didn't see a single pet emote about Azzam scratching.

And yes, throughout the night as I was talking about him in Guild Chat, I would mention how I was probably going to end up keeping him and he'd do a nuzzle emote at the perfect timing. x)

Awesome story and kitty! Glad you chose to bond. I also got a few new pets that night too. A Sili and a Kalli zombie. That was amusing. xD

But I'm glad you like your cat. I never looked much at them, (Except once as a temp pet named AlsoNotBarky. Long story.). I prefer my Rak'shiri. But he IS awfully pretty.

Haha. He does have a lot of personality. That happend to me and my Rak'shiri. I was getting rep for my winterspring frostsaber and when I came to hand in the quests I saw Rak'shiri had spawned. I looked for hunters who might want her but there wern't any (It was about 2 am at the time so not really a suprise). There was only a level 61 paladin in the zone who I had seen fairly close by and I didn't want to risk her getting killed. So I went to the stables because I had Crunch with me and I had an empty slot that I just couldn't fill. I tamed Rak'shiri, planning only to keep her until I got my winterspring frostsaber but even before the tame finished I felt a bond and now I couldn't let her go if I tried. Funny things like that happen it seems.

Hah Hah, this happened to me with my scarlet tracking hound. In the beginning when I started playing wow I hunted all over and only bonded *ever* to my black wolf and lion. And then I saw the hyenas, and all I could think was...ew. It's true I hated the hyena models even the red scarlet tracking hound. But then at level 70 I had one stable slot open and thought for a bit of change, so I went on a hunting spree [wrath was already out at this time] and tamed exotics and normal pets. I decided to visit one of my old favorite dungeons and saw the red hyena, for some reason over the levels the model began to grow on me and I tamed him. I loved him for along time afterwards but eventually released him for my Purple Chimera from Outland, I only retamed him on my Troll hunter named Soaras. He will always somehow forever remain with me. XD

Now that was a true story of a pet bond. A cat has chosen you and was so desperate in making you tame him, and now you got the kitty. He must've been looking for the perfect hunter mate.

Hehe, still no luck with getting those robes to drop, but I put together another set that matches well in the meantime. :) Just needed an excuse to take him on a photo shoot. ^^

Heeeee, I'm late to the party! Oops! :D

Azzam really is a master of emotes; his timing is fantastic! There was at least one occasion where Veph was talking about letting him go and he nuzzled her hand. There was only one scratching after the "flea dip" and it was when Korii turned up with his wolf. Korii assured us that his wolf was flea-free, and there were no scratching emotes after that. Azzy also seemed to like having earth shield; he was grumbly when he didn't have it! Hence it being in so many of the pics. xD (Let it be known that Riptide is not strong enough to de-flea him.)

He did something else I hadn't seen before (mostly because I haven't messed around all that much on a shammy), and which the other pets in Sholazar today weren't doing either. While we were camping the far northwest spot for Loque the first night in the Basin, Veph and I spent some time killing squirrels (ENEMIES OF P.DAWG!) and the two or three stray mammoths in the area. I playfully hexed one as Azzam was tearing him apart. Hex is a CC that can be attacked through, since it doesn't break immediately, so we expected him to keep pawing the little frog. Azzy instead started following the frog around, hopping around him as though in combat, but he wasn't actually attacking the frog. He was ABSOLUTELY playing with his food! He did this for the full duration of the hex, and several other hexes on other mammoths. Other frogs he actually kept attacking. There was no pattern to it; Azzy does what he wants when he wants. xD

Azzy seemed to bond with me a lil' as well, since he did a lovey emote to me in the Basin while we were all camped out after The Big Loque Taming - right after I'd said something positive about him. I do love this cat. :D Such a sweetheart!

Also love the new outfit! :D Soooo fitting! Especially with the hat! :D

I think I know which robe you're talking about for the "Welcome to the Jungle" look. Just in case you don't find one before then, there is a "pilgrim robe" http://www.wowhead.com/item=46824 that you can buy around the Pilgrim's Bounty holiday event. It might work.

The ones I'm specifically going after are the Sacrificial Robes, a 0.7% droprate from Morganth in Redridge Mountains. I've killed him about 60-ish times now and haven't seen them yet, though in all those kills I've found 2 green items. Maybe I'm slowly getting close. x) I like them because they're a yellow/gold and black. I'm sure eventually the RNG gods will favor me.....maybe.....someday
