I don't see it as a slap in the face really, it's just Blizzard humor. As someone else mentioned, it feels more to me like an acknowledgment of the hunter community and that they're sharing an inside joke with us.

I agree with Veph. I don't think Bliz is being insulting at all. It seems like a private in-joke they put into the game just for us

Rather than saying "u nubs can't tame brainbugs," they're saying "These bugs are untameable. No, really, they are. Look, it's even in their names!"

Honestly, I do like it when designers give the community a wink and a wave. It feels like we're part of the process. It shows that Blizz actually checks out what players want or need. Sure, their decision as what they actually give us but neat to see we're not only paying the monthly fee.
You guys saw that shark/devilsaur/forsaken bass player thingie? That was just another salute to the fan base and I'm loving it.

As has been said, it feels more like an acknowledgment than an insult. A shared joke of sorts. It is what it is, and maybe we can laugh about it. I, for one, am amused.
