Moving cats to a new house!

Howdy, everyone. I'm moving tomorrow to a wonderful new place just a short ways away. I packed fast, have everything in order, and am pretty much ready to go. But the one thing I'm dreading is moving my three cats. Even more so because I only have one smallish carrier.

My tiny little female will be going in the carrier as she will probably be the most comfortable in it. I was thinking of putting one of the others in one of my extra boxes and poking holes in it, or maybe putting both of my carrier-less cats in one box (the boxes are pretty big) in the hopes that being together would keep them calm.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions/opinions?

Yeah, going with separate boxes sounds like a good idea to me. Even if the box is big, they could panic and hurt each other. Maybe place the boxes near to each other so the cats can hear/smell each other...? Lining the boxes with blankets or other things they're familiar with (such as a favorite toy) could make it more comfortable for them and the familiar scent might help calm them down.

Edit: Also maybe try asking your vet if there's anything you can give the cats to calm them down if they're really antsy. Our dog despises car rides, so we give her some medicine recommended from her vet before we take any trips, and it calms her down quite well.

Handy tip: Remember to put your cats into your new house the way you want them to go in and out of the house!

Thanks! I knew just the things to put in their boxes and I had loads of fun stabbing quarter to golfball-sized holes in the cardboard with a sharp steak knife. Maybe too much fun...

Oh, well. Wish me luck and speed in the move!

Good luck! I hope you and the kitties settle down nicely and that everything goes smoothly. :)
