Disappointed in Cata pets.. I am.

So, we are well into Cata beta here, and I gotta say, I'm disappointed. Not only have we not seen the pet talent pass (which if it doesn't come soon, does not bode well for that supposed Nov 14 release date), but we really have not seen much new for hunters, other than what they are taking away.

So, we have 2 new pets. Foxes and Mastiffs. Everything else is just a reskin of an existing model. Is that all Blizz? really? we got a hell of a lot more in BC, and at least in BC we also got major new models for existing families.

GC to the other developers - - "Just give them those foxes and mastiffs, and throw the 25 stable slots at them, they'll never notice that we didn't give them anything else. And get rid of volley, I'm tired of hunters out-dpsing my mage".

At this point in time, yes, I'm disappointed.

Perhaps I'm being too optimistic, but I'm still holding onto my hope that they have a final 'big release' to come in the future with more pets. Remember that thread they opened on the Official Forums asking for input as to what beasts we'd like to tame? There were so many popular suggestions that I can't believe they'd just ignore them all. I'm crossing my fingers for additions like Stags, Hydras, etc.

If the Foxes/Monkeys/Mastiffs are truly all we get though....I'll be a bit glum. :(

I forgot the monkeys, but yeah, basically all we got was starter-zone pets.

If that's all we get in Cata, I might be done, getting tired of Blizz.

So what if they added stags & hydras, that'd please you Vephriel & a few others, but not everyone.

You cannot please everyone, with the massive thread on pet customization & what "Hunters want for pets"; I kinda' doubt it'd get that big with them blowing everyones' opinion off.

With that said, & the pet information having not gone through yet, heck I think they're still lacking some other class information too... I think that they'll have something really good for us before Cataclysm is released, they're um, just working up to it?

Playing the devil's advocate, this is still beta and a huge amount of work has still to be done.

Most of the pet models have still to be re-worked at this stage. Entire zone's have still to be filled with content, and i seem to remember that pet/animals were one of the last things developer's are going to look at .

I'll maintain the faith

*nods* This is exactly why I'm remaining hopeful as well. They haven't even done the pet pass yet, nor gone and flagged certain beasts as tameable. I'm just praying they have something else in store for us. ^^

You speak no more than sheer, divine truth. I am dissapointed aswell. But I have my reasons. Just foxes and mastiffs, really? (I think the mastiffs look ugly too, no offence to mastiff lovers) Oh yes. And a few new skins, amongst the old ones; crabs, buzzards, warp stalkers, boars (Helboar), croc, oh and a flashy unnecessary flavor monkey family with one more monkey skin with a few colors. I don't want to be ungrateful but seriously Blizzard, what the freaking hell are you doing to hunters? Don't they deserve something new? Warlocks are getting a new freaking system and from what I heard even new minions.

Where's our(new); Silithid Models, Hydra family, Pterrordax Family, Kodo/Stegodon Family, new Devilsaur models? Where's our new spider models, where's a possible Mantis family with model for us? Mantids are said to live on Azeroth, slightly mutated version of our ones though. No new wasps? No Silithid wasps ( besides the boss models and the blue with yellow one) -- Why? What is the reason for them staying untamable? Yes, I know the answer, there is no reason. Why the hell is that blue Mage Hunter pet still untamable whilst the red one isn't? Why aren't there tamable squids/krakens, why can't they make the sea snake tamable like the eel was a mana wyrmling pet who was both an eel and a floating wyrmling? What's with Volley getting taken away? I know the reasons but it seems like a bunch of shit, and what kind of compensation do we get? A pat on the shoulder and the empty promise that multi-shot MIGHT make up for it. Right.

^

Sorry, I just had to let go of my irritation at how lax Blizz is being >_>

stags have diets and a few sea snakes and elemental looking worms/spiders exist so theress still a chance we will get more than what is already tameable and theres also a few new core hounds that could become tameable i like this one most http://cata.wowhead.com/npc=39348
so dont count your chickens before they hatch!

True, but...

This far into beta the last 2 times, we at least saw strange new models available from the dataminers very early in beta, and eventually we found them. This time, all the speculation has really been answered already.

The most interesting models have been made untameable,

Only other truely new tameable model was the new crabs.

Not much at all compared to past expansions.

blizz has yet to go thru and flag everything that will be tameable tameable the other crab colors are an example blizz wants to test quests and zone mechanics and class stuff before they move on to small stuff pets are not high up on the list even now there are 2 other zones untested alot of bugs like the maelstrom crashing everyone and spells bugging out we have to be patient when it comes to this after all its a beta things can change in the blink of an eye!

did i just make perfect sense? im going to get hurt!

That was shown to be because they are mislabelled as Bears tough, so right now it's about fifty-fifty to whether or not they are intended to be tameable, or they're just confused and think that they are bears.

Sorry, I don't count new NPCs with existing skins and models as something new.

What I'm going by is what has been discovered by the data miners. And the new models that have been found have all been accounted for, many of which are elemental or underwater beasts. Unless they start adding a lot of new models, I don't see much for us.

And even if stags are tameable, those are old models sofar.

I'm disappointed that no one has really mentioned making the basilisks tameable. And not to start a flame war, but can someone explain to me the mass appeal of hunters wanting Stags, Talbuks, and Deer as pets? To my perspective, those pet families are things you are supposed to "hunt" for food, not to be an attack animal.

It's all personal preference really. I understand where you're coming from, but I still remember the first time I stepped into Ashenvale as a baby hunter and saw those gorgeous black stags. I wanted to tame one so badly, but then found out they aren't a pet family. I really like the idea of stags for pets, they seem like an excellent match for a hunter, but that's just my own opinion. ^^ I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldn't want one as well.

remember blizz asked hunters to put in opinions on beasts that should be tameable a few months before beta so when the pet pass does come around i would assume new families will as well i hope we get some new exotic pets with this expansion!

We can hope, but just saying I'm dissapointed with what I've seen sofar.

And I just saw a red corehound in Dala named PreparationH.. umm... :? Might not look at a corehound the same again...

My big worry is that Blizzard's grand finale is giving us several families of underwater pets. And while I'd love an eel or a sea snake or a shark, I still think we'll all feel a little gypped. I realize that there's a lot more places to use an underwater pet in Cataclysm, but if that's ALL they give us... Well, it seems like it's going to be a pretty small percent of the time that we'll all actually get to play with our shiny new pets. That hardly seems worth it on its own, to me.

Remember Skoll, Arcturis, Ambiguous Tinker Gnome, and Gondria were not around when WOTLK came out.

One of them still needs to be released to us....
