Doing quests in the Borean Tundra and one of them turned me into a gnome hunter several times. Was actually really cool! Blizz really needs to allow gnomes to be hunters!!

"Technically", being a hunter doesn't fit the gnomes' style when you look at lore and the past. However, the World of Warcraft is an ever-evolving story, and if we can have a branch of trolls separate from their cannibalistic culture to join the Horde, or have a particular branch of goblins go back on their neutral stance and join the Horde, or even have Worgen which up til this point have been an incredibly savage, hostile being join the Alliance in an interesting turn of events, then why could there never possibly be a certain band of gnomes who care more for nature than they do tinkering?

That's why the "RAWRLORE" argument has no place as far as I'm concerned. As long as they came up with an acceptable and believable story for gnomes going hunter, I would be all for it. :D

Wow Rhy, you should start a thread on the official forums. You argue the point really well. :)

What quest is that?

Yus! Moar Gnomes as Hunters love!

I know there have already been quite a few forum posts on the subject. So, there have been arguments for and against it. I can't be bothered to find the latest one, but here is the one I made awhile ago. Clicky

Gnome Priests though? I think it might be easier for a gnome to learn how to tame a animal, rather than learn Resurrection. Just my 2 cents.

Jeepers, there are Tauren Rogues after all

Well, there's lore and there's bullcrap.
Lore explains why there are no Nelf warlocks.
Bullcrap is what produces Human and Forsaken hunters.

I agree with you to a point, but there's a fine line to what makes for a good story and what's "just for the sake of it".
And Gnome hunters (along with Human and Forsaken) are the latter.
As opposed to the much debated Tauren paladins. They fit quite nicely, actually. Tauren are generally a proud and honorable people, who respect the balance in nature and similar traits. It makes sense that they would see the balance of light and dark in the same way and have the mindset to follow and serve the Light. Especially when you consider the fact that they view the Light as something sun related (hence Sunwalkers), and a major druidic theme is the moon. Two versions of the same faith, basically.

The only way I could see Gnomes as being hunters (in the WoW sense), would be with Mind control devices or by building mechanical pets (which actually would be kinda cool).
"a certain band of gnomes who care more for nature than they do tinkering" just isn't enough to justify an entire class, imo. They'd be like a minor faction, such as the Wildhammer dwarves. A small anomoly in the general race.

I don't exactly have an opinion on the whole gnome hunter debate, however I did just want to point out an excellent article concerning 'lolore' and why we shouldn't be so quick to throw the term around:

And isn't that essentially the "basis" of dwarf shamans? A tiny little faction that for the most part we have little interaction with, is now from what we gather the reason we'll be getting dwarf shamans? :)

Small anomaly or not, it still happened, and I don't see why it couldn't again.

The Wildhammers were just an of the top of my head example. Kurzen is probably more fitting.
But since you bring it up.. :)

SPOILER ALERT!!
Faded colour to avoid accidents. Just mark it. :P

Aye, the Wildhammers are (supposedly. Not quite sure yet, afaik) responsible for introducing shamanism to the Ironforge Dwarves.
But not on their own. There's also the Dark Irons Dwarves. Since Magni will be unavailable come Cataclysm, his daughter Moira will be taking charge, with her half Ironforge, half Dark Iron child. Essentially, the three major dwarf clans will be joining together in a peace treaty of sorts.

Now, you could argue that a similar story could make the Gnomes believable hunters. But again that's ignoring basic race lore. Dwarves have a natural affinity for nature and it's workings (albeit mostly stone and fire), because they were created from stone by the Titans. So them learning shamanism is not a stretch at all. It's actually more surprising that there weren't playable Dwarf shamen already.
Gnomes, on the other hand, descend from Mechagnomes and have no real affinity or kinship with nature.

Humans are a stretch, but still somewhat believable, yeah..
I just don't like the idea of human hunters. Ruins the whole mutual communication and kinship feel of other hunter races, imo.. -.-

a gnome wouldent use an animal when they can build robot animals better with more guns and boosters ect why use a wolf when you can use a robo k-90000 with a jet coming out of its ass and a lazer on its head?
