How do you define "ninja?"

I was all in *rolleyes* mode earlier today when someone was labeled a "ninja" for winning all the loot in the last boss at FoS. This "ninja" rolled greed like everyone else (and no one rolled need). Kinda felt sorry for the guy.

So how do you REALLY define a ninja?

A ninja is someone who needs on something without being able to properly justify it. Like the lock that rolled Need on a +12 Agi helm over me. Stupid bastard...

Exactly. The only time I did this was when I accidentally hit need instead of greed. I won but the guy who wanted it stayed to ask for the item. I gave it to him of course.

I agree with you guys--being a ninja is trying to Need on an item you don't actually need. It's effectively stealing. So many bad stories...

THIS part bugs me though. One of my first runs of A-N, one of the FIRST things to drop from an early pack of trash mobs was a blue-item ring with great rogue stats. I was playing on my rogue. The ring was an improvement to one of the rings I was currently wearing. Logic says 'need' right? I have all the qualifications of needing the ring, it isn't stealing, and I'm going to benefit from the extra stats.

Apparently, not so. The entire group had greeded on it (I was the only rogue, and no feral druids or anything; most of the group was plate). I needed. They started yelling at me for being a ninja. I tried to explain it was an improvement and even linked the ring I was replacing. They continued to yell at me.

Very annoying :(

Yep, pretty much.

Playfully, I'll accuse people of being a ninja over silly things of course.

I define ninja as people who roll on offspec w/o asking first :?

Like if I'm qued as dps, the healer needs on a staff, I'm not going to need on it... But if no one needs then I would. Apparently that's not how it works though :(

I ran into something like this earlier in UK. The resto shaman needed a hunter/rogue ring. I didn't say anything even though I rolled need also since it was only a minor upgrade, and I was just looking for emblems.

I had a ninja only once.
First boss down, everyone rolled for greed, he rolled need on everything, took the stuff and logged off.
That is my definition of a ninja.

Ugh, Karathyriel, that's just plain obnoxious.

It reminds me of Ninja Raiders, only the song is funny, and it happening in real life is not :(

I would defina ninja as a covert agent or mercenary in the Fuedal Japan era, that specialized in unorthadox arts of war...

Ninja is one who rolls on something that is either:

not meant for their class,
not intended for their current speck without asking before hand if they can roll for off-speck,
someone who intentionally ignores rules on profession items or nodes (there are 3 miners in the group, they agree that nodes and mine-able mobs are to be rolled on, node is found and player B runs head long and mines it before it is rolled on and continues this trend for the rest of the instance),
someone who intentionally rolls against pre-stated rolling rules (IE need before greed, BOE's are greed only, item X is greed only, etc).

/\
To me that is a ninja.

Yup, this annoying needing on gems is pissing me off. THEY ARE TRADESKILL MATS, AND JUST BECAUSE YOUR A TAILOR AND NEED IT FOR A RECIPE THAT SHOULD BE GREY AT THIS LEVEL IT DOESNT ENTITLE YOU TO ROLL NEED ON IT!

Oops. That caps was totally unintended...

For some things I've just never taken chances...the risk of ninja-ing is too great.

For example when we were doing the Headless Horseman, before every group I went with I said up front, "if the mount drops, everyone just need on it." I don't think I would ever live it down if I lost out on something like that because I went the polite route while somebody else was a jerk.

Agreed...on special items like mounts I state roll need because I will be doing that. Other than that the only thing that bugs the hell out of me is this increasing penchant for waiting till everybody has rolled greed on the frozen orb and then rolling need and disappearing. OK, the orb isn't what it used to be but still...

Agreed, I ALWAYS see that in PuGs.

Recipes are one thing, but mats... eh.

Really? I don't do dungeons often, but when I do it's always a PuG and I have never seen this. AND I'm a JC, so I'd be the one requiring gems for my work!

Then again, I probably wouldn't need even if they dropped...gems are SO easy to get at the maxed level, it's insane. They drop pretty often from saronite, it's almost guaranteed you'll get something from titanium, green gems are worth next to nothing uncut on the AH, and you can make rare and epic gems with icy prisms and alchemy. Not to mention buy them with marks. I really can't see why anybody would need to need to begin with. O_o

Generally, I agree with the definitions I see here.. but there's one missing.

Back when Sarth was srsbzns, every healer, caster, and their mother wanted this little fella'. It wasn't as bad for melee/ranged, but this guy was also very coveted.

Ninjas were people who set up raids, got 24 people saved, then master looted the item to themselves/their buddy in spite of rolls.

In 5-mans, though, needing on offspec gear (unless you've stated it up front and nobody objected!) or needing on gear that's not appropriate for your class = major douchebaggery.

Anywhere that a mount might drop, I'll state up front to need on it. I've had a guildie greed on the UP blue drake because he missed the tells... :( The rest of us needed and a pugger won it (well deserved, he healed his heart out!) but you never know how my guildie would have rolled.

Went to Uldaman on Stereo, a great gun with AP and Hit dropped, and I needed. So did the rogue. And the Druid. Now, I wouldn't be mad if the rogue had won, he needs those stats too, but the Druid! So I tell him to trade it, since he can't use it. He says that he can use it, and tells me that I'm just a greedy noob. I told him no, and he called me ninja and tried to votekick me. Now, calling a hunter ninja because they need on a gun is what I call idiotic. Unfortunately, we couldnt votekick him, because we had removed an autofollower earlier. He proceeded to need on some great tanking boots (plate) "cuz I get armor upgrade at 40".

Idiots...
