Sorry if this is repeated info, but I searched and found no reports that the Blighthound (mastiff) at The Marris Stead, Eastern Plaguelands, is now tameable, and by both factions. I know previous reports said it was untameable.

As far as I can tell this is the first instance of a yellow mastiff that is tameable by all the Alliance (the only other currently tameable ones being Worgen-only or Horde-only).

This npc is an untameable hyena on live which is friendly to the Horde and are pets of a Horde npc, who is part of a pvp quest. The mastiff version on the beta is hostile to both factions (the Blightcaller Horde NPC is gone) and I've tamed it with hunters from both sides. The mastiff version still has the sickly green aura of the original, but that's lost after taming. Note that the hyena (live) and mastiff versions have different IDs, but the hyena isn't tameable so it has no ramifications for converting to beta. Hope this screenshot works:

Aww, Nathanos is losing his hyenas. The mastiffs certainly make more sense for people like the Scarlet Crusade to be using, but the blighted hyenas really suited Nathanos, the mastiff doesn't seem like it would fit as well.

Nathanos himself is gone, though!

Seems like he's not in game at this point, unless Sylvanas has assigned him someplace that hasn't been implemented yet. Surely if he was in, say, the Undercity, he would have been spotted by now, right? Or is UC still closed?

EDIT: I forgot he was still in Old Hillsbrad...and the commentary on that Wowhead page has me thinking: perhaps he'll be the undead hunter trainer in UC? That would be AMAZING...

Nathanos will be absent from the Eastern Plaguelands in Cataclysm. A quest refers to him as the "former occupant" of the Marris Stead, and many of his quests are now given by other NPCs in the zone, but it remains unknown whether he has been killed by the Alliance in lore, or is merely away elsewhere.

I should go visit Nathanos, now that I'm Horde. Maybe he'll be nicer! Tough little bugger...

And they even wear the same armor!

The human version is in Old Hillsbrad, so you can see him when he was still alive.

They had an article on this a long time ago on wowinsider.com. SPOILER!!! I believe he is now the undead ranger general and is teaching undead players the way of the hunter..so hes still in game IF I REMEMBER RIGHT <-- not sure

Found the two-part article here and here.

Mostly good, juicy backstory on the man in life and undeath. It's an interesting read, but there's nothing but pure speculation regarding Cataclysm, and not even much of that. If anything, the writers speculate that he's not present in Cataclysm.
