this happened to me when I was playing in the BG's. I have my pet by my side and I'm mounted. I have tried this a couple of times, and it worked. Use the hot key (H) to select the battleground. Make sure before you go in that you are mounted. Once the game is finally over, make sure you have your pet by your side and then exit the game. You will have your pet by your side. I like riding into town this way.

Mm hmm, it works for random dungeons too. As long as you're mounted before you enter, when you exit your pet will show up by your side. ^^ It's a pretty fun glitch.

That's because no one at Blizzard ever thought of flying mounts during the design of the game

The data structure only holds one information: mounted/not mounted

Maybe, with WoW 2.0 (AKA Cataclysm) this problem will be resolved... but I won't hold my breath.

Heh, in Cataclysm your flying mount should hold onto your pet beneath you. xD

maybe its just my computer, but sometimes when i mount up, my bear just stays there(but not my new wind serpant...WTF)

Sounds like it could just be lag to me.

I tried this trick and it didn't work. I came out of the BG and was mounted but without a pet at my side as usual.

No, it did work the second time I tried it. The first time, I changed my gear to my PvP set after entering the BG. Maybe that messed the glitch up. Unglitched the glitch lol. The second time, I switched gear before even queueing up and that time it worked.

One of the minor hunter changes I wish they had left alone. I forgot the reasoning behind it (something stupid I'm sure) but I used to love the fact that my cat ran alongside me...it's what a faithful pet would do IMO.

As I remember it , they changed it in BC when pets were dying if their masters, on flying mounts, flew over the Twisting Nether and the poor pet would fall to it's death. It happened a lot while you were doing the daily quests to get a Netherwing Drake. They were also being killed by aggroing mobs on the ground that they ran past while trying to follow their flying masters. The change made sense at the time. I wish they would come up with a way for the pet to stay at your side if you get on a ground mount and only auto dismiss if you get on a flyer.

Aye, it was horrible. I'd rush trough a village on my ground mount, get a bunch of mobs on me, Feign Death, and get my pet killed.

It did'nt get better with TBC. I'd fly high over a village, and my pet would get ganked by the guys down there.

This is'nt related to pets following ye, it's because of when you "change" your mount in there, it would cause the pet to reappear. It's still happening. Sometimes I'd fly in there, get dismounted, and not get my Netherdrake instead, thus I fell to my death.

I noticed during the time I was testing this, that I would come out of a BG without my pet. Took me a couple of times to figure out that my pet was was not at my side just before I left the BG, so no pet to come out with.

It may have had something to do with the mount change there, but if you flew over any other part of the Nether where your mount didn't change, the pet would also fall and die.

There were great shortcuts over the nether and I took them often.

I never could quite understand how our flying pets like owls and bats can't follow us in the air since they, too, can fly and it would look cute. I can imagine a hunter on a dragonhawk mount and his dragonhawk pet flying with him in the air.

Or the hunter bringing out a saddle for the dragonhawk. That would be awesome...
