That's a neat idea, but I'm guessing it would never get implemented by Blizzard due to the huge amount of art-/model-work required to support armor on all the tamable models. We'd be more likely to get war paints, but even that I'd consider highly unlikely, unfortunately.

Pets already get a % of armor from their owners so it's not necessary to have "pet armor".

Absolutely true, but the entirety of WoW isn't necessary either, it's all just for fun

I'd certainly welcome the ability to further "customize" your pets, even if it's just cosmetic.

I't be awsome to have though, even just as a cosmetic, and it would provide a bit more income for some proffesions. Especially if certain parts needed where only crafted by other profs...
ex Leather pattern: Animal armor Blue
adds a blue armor to your pet's skin
mats: 20 Icy Dragonscales, 2 blue dye, 10 metal clasps (BS pattern), 5 frostweave bolts (tailor).

Leather Pattern: Animal armor spikes
Adds a spiked armour to pet skin
Mats: 40 heavy borean leather, 8 iron spikes (BS pattern), handfull of saronite bolts (engeneer)

Leather Patern: Cameo tarp
Adds a cameo armour to your pet.
Mats: 20 Heavy borean leather, 10 enchanted leather (enchanting), spun thread (tailoring)

different patterns would require mats from different proffesions.

If things stay the way they are in PTR my BM pets are gunna need plate.
