Well, I finally got around to taming a red hyena, and did so more out of a sense of duty to long anticipation than out the expectation that I'd actually keep it. But, after taming, I was immediately struck by how gorgeous this skin is. The coloration is great, even if the model is a bit dated.

So, now my new hyena pal needs a name. Haven't decided if it's male or female, and I think an androgynous name would be best, anyway. Not really interested in joke names or pop culture references (i.e., Bacon the boar or Hedwig the owl).

Any suggestions?

How about Shani? It's a Hebrew name meaning "crimson red" that is fairly unisex. There's also Aatami, which means "earth" or "red".

One of my favorite things about wow hyenas is the way they sound. Sekayi is an African name that means laughter.

I'm not too worried about this. It's entirely possible that, by the time beta's over, Blizzard'll be good enough to code the new mastiffs such that the old Scarlet Hounds stay hyenas. It's also possible that by the time Cata launches, my slow leveling crawl will have taken me into Tanaris and given me a new opportunity for a red hyena.

I've always liked the name Rowan, but Flynn has a good hyena feel to it. I really like it.

True, but it's important to predict ahead of time how someone actually KNOWS the name is going to be pronouncing it. <.<

Anyway, thanks for the input, guys. I ended up naming him/her Flynn.
