I have very recently just started watching an anime series again. It's called bleach and i've currently caught all of the english dubbed episodes.

So i'm looking for suggestion on a new anime series i can watch :D

If you enjoy Bleach you might enjoy Naruto. I suggest watching Full Metal Alchemist as well. My personal favorite anime of ALL time is Trigun. If you don't mind the mind-screw, watch Evangelion until the last few episodes. Then go out and get the movie. I am talking original series Evangelion. I love Orphen, Ruin Soldier Louie, and Those who Hunt elves ((First season)) because of humor, though the first season of Orphen is plenty serious to go along with it. Cowboy Beebop is just plain classic, probably one of the best anime around.

I can't think of anymore right now.

Edit: Thought of some more! I personally am a big fan of Mobile Suit Gundam. You MIGHT like G-Gundam Fighter, since you liked Bleach, but I am not a fan. The original Mobile Suit Gundam actually still holds up really well, and Zeta is classic. 008th MS Team is one of my favorite anime series, and 0083 Stardust Memory and War in the Pocket are both good series. You CAN watch ZZ Gundam, but try not to take it to seriously. Chars Counter Attack I would avoid like the plague, unless you like character breaking. Personally, I don't so I avoid it. Love the mobile suit design though. I'll update you as I think of more anime.

If you're a fan of Bleach I'd agree with Palla there that you'd probably like Naruto, too. Personally both started to get really draggy for me after a while and I stopped with both Bleach AND Naruto, but they work along similar lines too. If you enjoy one you'll probably like the other.

You might enjoy One Piece too (which is another immensely popular ongoing series in Japan). It's also Shounen, but be warned that there's a lot more weird comedy to it too. Sometimes Bleach/Naruto fans dislike it because it doesn't seem to take itself seriously (personally, this is why I enjoy One Piece more, it has character and interesting fights and stuff without going overboard and becoming all muddled and draggy).

I also support watching Fullmetal Alchemist! I preferred the first anime series, or the manga. Not so fond of Brotherhood (the second anime series, which is based off the manga but to me, at least, generally felt REALLY rushed).

Other favorites of mine? Samurai Champloo. It's a must, one of my all-time favorites. Also one of the rare series that you can watch in both Japanese AND English (in fact, for some reason I've found it's actually HARDER to find the Japanese version...people just love Steve Blum as Mugen...)

If you're in the mood for something less shounen-y and more of a mystery mindbender, may I suggest Umineko no Naku Koro Ni? It's a kinda crazy series (you can find it on mangafox easily, start with Episode 1). If you like mystery novels, especially Agatha Christie, you might like this one too.

If you're still looking for more, I can always go through my list of manga/anime and try to find something else suggestable, too. But this is probably enough to get started. XP

EDIT: GAH, I can't believe I forgot one of my other favorites, DEATH NOTE. Manga preferable, the anime got rushed at the end, but holycrap it's a good series. XD

EDIT 2: Thought of another one! Getbackers. The anime is a bit...tame....but the manga is definitely pretty cool. It also has a pretty unusual plot; the main characters aren't really out to save the world or complete an epic quest for something or other. They retrieve objects to get money, which they have pretty terrible luck with. It's very amusing, but also full of badassery. :D

I don't think gender really has anything to do with it. I'm female and I love beat'em'up shounen manga. I also have guy friends who swear by some shoujo series.

Oh, there are sooo many good ones! So far I have to agree with all the one's mentioned by VelkynKarma and Palladiamorsdeus.

I have to suggest "Naoki Urasawa's Monster". Great anime, reminds me a bit of "The Fugitive" but with it's own twist. It's on Hulu right now. Actually, there is a ton of good anime on hulu, including "Death Note" which Vel mentioned.

"Berserk" is an amaizing anime, but it ends abruptly and at a very bad place. The manga is a must, because it does go beyond where the anime leaves off. Be warned, it is perhaps one of the most violent things I have ever come across. It is very much an action/fantasy/horror type. Emphasis on horror.

"HunterxHunter" is a fun anime, if a bit cliche at times. Think special martial art's powers, treasure hunting and weird enemies. It's where I got my name, although the real Kurapika is a boy. (Although he does look like a girl, and his voice actor is very feminine sounding. He can still be down right scary though).

"Last Exile" and "Now, Then, Here, and There" are both very good straight drama types. Both are very sad though.

"Wolf's Rain" is also worth a watch. It's about a post apocalyptic wolf pack searching for paradise. Shoot, I want to see this one again!

"Gurren Lagann" was surprisingly good. It's a post apocalyptic Mecha anime that is much more serious than it at first appears. Very good story line and character development under the initial weirdness of it.

Oh yeah! "Initial D" is good as well. It's a car racing anime, which isn't something I'd normally go for, but it's good!

I could keep going, but I think I'd better stop. ^_^

I'll also recommend Naruto. One of the very few I've actually read. (Very recently too... :P )

Aaaah, I forgot about Wolf's Rain Kurapika. It's definitely a good series, but REALLY serious and a bit heavy, so fair warning on that. You need to be in the right mood for it. But beautiful animation.

What Lovcat probably means is that she likes 'magical girl' anime, like Sailor Moon or Wedding Peach. Personally I love anime like that, buuutttt Ade started off with Bleach, so I didn't think the magical girl genre would be quite right to suggest. *LAUGHS*

Also forgot to mention Gundam Wing is a personal preference of mine. There are other's I am sure, I am just scattered brained today.

Of course, I wasn't saying I am female therefore I like girly anime. I'm saying that I'm super feminine and I like girly anime hehe.

Sailor moon, Paradise Kiss, Love Hina, Tenchi Muyo, Chobits, Air, Mai-hime, Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Magic Knight Rayearth, Lucky Star.. the list goes on.

I did like Death Note a lot.. but Bleach, Naruto and such kinda don't appeal to me as much.

I wouldn't say Fruits Basket is super girly, I actually enjoyed that one a lot. I think it's more silly though.

(Incidentally Fruits Basket should also go on the list >> << )

But not really a fan of the others, yeah.
rubybeam wrote:added links to my post also ONE PIECE! the sub version is great and is probably as good at naruto most the dub version ruined it..
Wait, which dub you referring to? One Piece has TWO dubs. The first was the CATASTROPHE that was 4Kids' attempt at it, that was absolutely terrible. Then FUNimation got a hold of it, and they do much better, they don't cut things or change language or cast super terrible voices. I still prefer the Japanese with English subs, but the FUNimation version is at least loyal to the original. Not to mention, the original studio for OP got smart and supervised ALL of FUNi's castings, so those voices are Japanese-original approved XD

As for the Naruto dub, I haven't seen too many eps, but I do know the voices of Naruto in the English and Japanese versions are pretty much identical. (Personally I hate them both, his voice makes my ears BLEED in either version, but they at least adapted it right). I'm always puzzled when people complain about this adaption and say Naruto's English voice is crap because...it's prettymuch the exact same voice, only speaking English words instead of Japanese ones. >>;

In that case, agreed. The 4Kids version was an atrocity. Actually, to be honest, anything 4Kids produces is an atrocity. X_X

Well i should have my say seeing as i am a 2D animator and all. *ahem*

Naruto if you love filler epps as its got the most out of all tv shows lol i mean theres a hole epp thats basicly them runing thru trees reuseing frames for petes sake!

I would not recomend Berserk as its more a slide show than a cartoon ( I am an animator so i know what i'm talking about lol)

Gurren Lagann is good

Chrono crusade is my fav but noones ever heard of it lol or magipoka for that matter.

Zoids is fun.

one peice is good just not the 4kids one where they redrew frames

er for manga I'd go with Battle royale! One of the best mangas i have ever read just don't watch the movie its a big let down to anyone who has read the manga. I don't get why so many people like that movie jeez. Manga beats the movie by far trust me its sad and happy and gorey and oh man.

Ade, if you wanted to specify what genres or themes you're most drawn in by I could recommend a bunch. :) There's such a diverse variety in anime that it's hard for me to just choose a handful without knowing your tastes. ^^

Chrono Crusade and Initial D are both good examples.

I have to disagree with you though, Cow. Berserk is an EXCELLENT anime. It's just very, VERY dark. Don't watch it if you don't like cliffhanger endings, or overly dark or violent anime. It does, however, have some of the greatest out takes EVER. Seriously, look up the Berserk out takes sometime for a good laugh, especially when you consider how dark the show is.

I have no problem with Naruto's voice. It doesn't bother me in the least. He is a bit annoying himself in the beggining, but he gets much better as the show goes.

Lol....as for the fangirls, well, I've seen insane fangirls in virtually every fandom, so probably not the best clip XP If I were to argue on the girliness of Fruits Basket I might link the lovey-dovey songs or the touchy-feely lecture moments on the part of Tohru Honda.

But perhaps I should rephrase! When I say it's not as girly, I probably mean to say it's one of the more 'neutral' shoujo series I've seen. My friend had me read....crap, something I can't remember the name of now, gah, but the girl had to go around and find certain people that had tattoos somewhere on their body that marked them as her specific guardians or something...but oh my goodness, it was like reading a soap opera, romance every five minutes, love pentagons, etc etc. I wanted to die.

By comparison, Fruits Basket has 'fight scenes' (mostly on the part of Yuki, Kyo, and sometimes Hatsuharu trying to beat the crap out of each other), and a lot of its romantic scenes are usually broken up or built on by romantic comedy, so it's a little more bearable for me at least.

But still probably not suggestible if the original poster is interested in Bleach-esque beat-em-up shonen series. XP

The book is actually the best. The original novel, that is. I own it, and it's quite creepy, but very good.
