I was curious if anyone knew why the level cap was set to only 85 on this expansion??
From BC to WotLK wasn't it 10 levels?
Anyone know?

It's possible they don't want to kick us up to level 90... Not yet at least. That may be saved for the next expansion as they likely don't want to hit 100 either quite yet.

I might be wrong but I think it's
80->81 : 1.6 mil
81->82 : 1.7 mil
82->83 : 6.2 mil
rest not sure

I think it's worse than that.

I read somewhere (can't remember where, sorry) a long time ago that the reason for only doing 5 levels was because they had to spend so much time redoing the 1-60 leveling experience. They figured that since there wouldn't be as much new-level content in this expansion, it made sense to have fewer levels instead of stretching things out unnecessarily.
Personally I'm a bit miffed because that means it'll be even longer before I can finish reading
A Steamy Romance Novel: Northern Exposure.

Ha. Level 99 req.
I've heard that Blizz wanted to mix things up again and focus more on playing the game then just simply "leveling up". Honestly, its all the same to me. Just another number. By the time we are done with half the quests, we'll be capped at 85 anyhow. We'll then use the rest of those quests + daily quest grinds to pile on the money for the ever expanding list of must haves in game...
The merch must be fed... <tic>

Last I heard, you pretty much gotta go through all the new zones to hit level cap. I'm sure it depends how much you run dungeons along the way though - Sara only dinged 80 at the end of Storm Peaks while all my alts have been dinging somewhere around Grizzly Hills for that reason. Heck, my last 80 dinged in Dragonblight!

You must feed the merch, lest it begin to eat the children!

I believe I heard somewhere there is a hard cap of lvl 100.

That makes no sense. I mean, the cap is whatever they program it to be, I see no reason why the program that Blizz created wouldn't allow levels beyond 100.

Yah I know but I've seen it before. Who knows though they may go past 100. That's still years from now.

Lol true. I saw a GC quote that pretty much made it clear that we'll see 5 levels per expac now. Can't remember the source though, it was about something else entirely.

I think is cos they are adding so much new content to the old content that theey did not want to spend as much time on makeing 10 more new lvls?

^ This. I could see them still going with 5 levels / xpac after cata just because it's going to get a bit silly past lvl 100 (and 100 seems like such a "natural" final destination), and 5 / xpac lets them stretch it out longer... but yeah for cata you gotta figure the work that would have gone into developing lvls 86-90 was diverted into revamping old world - which they really needed to do anyway; if you're going to encourage people to roll new toons, having to trudge through Ye Olde Worlde lvls 1-58 would be self-defeating, and they already did the "HEROIC CLASS" dodge last xpac, so it was pretty much unavoidable they'd have to give Azeroth a facelift this go 'round. This is something I've been pushing for, for a looooonnng time.

I agree with what Worba said! Horray for new content to level the damn strech of 1-58!
