Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)

Greetings, everyone! The following is random rage thread, so if you're not in the mood, please hit your "Back" button now!
I don't know why, but I am compelled to post about one of my GREATEST peeves; Hunters naming their pet Cats "Dog".
This ridiculous name infuriates me to no end. It was slightly amusing the first time I saw it years ago, but I have recently seen more and more hunters doing the exact same thing and for some reason, it just gets under my skin! I imagine they think they're terribly clever (about as clever as those YouTubers posting videos of themselves riding a shopping cart down a steep hill, imo!), but it's just
done to death!
Does anyone else feel my pain or have pet annoyances of their own? Or should I possibly seek professional help?
**I do not mean ANY offense to anyone in these forums who should just so happen to name their Cats "Dog", though I would be surprised if any of you do. I imagine you love your pets more than that.

I can very much relate to your distaste!
I had a guildy who named thier wolf "Cat" and thier cat "Dog" at first it was kinda amusing, but yes, after awhile it just got old, and now when I see it, all I can think is...of all the names out there, thats what you pick...Retard.

While I don't like seeing pets with names like that, you can just ignore them.

Oh, it's definitely annoying. Along with pets who stay unnamed for months/years. Not annoying to the point of saying something to the hunter, but ugh, yes, bothersome.
I do report the ones with truly offensive names, though. And others are just in bad taste, but not enough to go that far with. -_- Ughhhh.

hehe unnamed bother me more then the dogs named cat, or the devilsaurs named fish or mouse..But i agree.. those names.. sigh
But then again.. some may HATE my naming policy (or lack there off).. I mean .. a cat named Müsli.. that migth make ppl wonder
I think all hunters should name their pets

Accually ive decided to have my pets in cata named within a week after tame

Kahluas pets gonna be eazy cause they have a booze theme.. but Tårnfalk.... no theme

So fare ive got Müsli, NomNom, Mocca,CutiePie and Unrest... and i know im gonna have an Iggy, Dracan and Aerowin... NO theme what so ever... well besides naming them after old friends/games etc

My wolves tend to remain unnamed... For some reason, I tend to feel "Wolf" suits them. Probably because I've seen it used as a name in itself elsewhere. The names I have a problem with involve profanity. Or cutesy names, as in Tarnfalk's example (no offense meant, stuff like "Fluffy" or "Nomnom" just rub me the wrong way).

I do seem to think unnamed pets is better than pets with offensive names. Even if there is a wolf pet named Wolf or a cat pet named Cat, at least it's more respectful towards them since that is what they are honestly. If the animal names were switched, then yes, that would be a bit disrespectful. I have never seen someone with that per se yet. However, I did instantly report to a GM as soon as I saw a hunter with a wolf that had a very offensive name for it at one occasion not too long ago. Nobody will ever get away with sticking the f word on a pet's name, even if they decide to leave a letter out of that word in the name.

I had a wolf named Boar once...
I'm kinda' neutral on that. I find it more annoying with an unnamed pet (seriously, it takes five seconds at most) than with a cat named dog and such. It's not very funny anymore, far overdone, but I usually don't care too much about what others name their pets. I even have a Moth named Fear, so...

Yeah, I really don't care about other pet names unless it's something offensive.
Just because you've seen something done over and over until it became cliche doesn't mean the other person has, maybe that's why they did it.
Just sayin'. <.<;
Edit: Care, as in, get bothered by.

It makes me sigh with disappointment and do an eye roll to see hunter pets forced to take such abuse from their owners. I just go along my merry way content with the fact that my own pets will never, ever have to bear the name "Imwitstupid" or "Buttlicker". To me, hunters that utilize such naming techniques only further confirm the notion of "Huntard".
Cats that are named "Dog" and such, while overused and a bit immature, don't really irk me into a frenzy. They're like pesky little flies - bothersome - but inevitable nevertheless.
Unnamed pets don't bother me either. I think it's because I can relate to those who might be waiting til they find that perfect name. I find that the generic placeholder names of "Wolf" and "Cat" are far more respectable than something that may be similar to what I mentioned above.

Something that does bother me is pets with their names in caps
DEATH
just makes me think " ohh no another 10 year old "
Agree that i tend to over cute my pets names and the reasons why i name them that.. and i can see that there is 1.090.582 devilsaurs named nomnom out there, so i agree.. im not very original hehehe

I'll admit it. I had a Cat named Cat. Why? Because it fit him. He was Cat. I couldn't think of a name, and Cat worked. When I did think of one, he no longer clicked. He wasn't Cat anymore. I had to get rid of him. Come Cata, I'll pick Cat up again because I really liked Cat.
What irks me is caps in pet names. No, I'd rather not group with KiLeRPeTXXX.

Also I once saw a guy who had a wolf named Dragonhawk. Now i dont know if he was just being more creative with the Cat/dog thing. Or if he just liked the name. I figured the latter. I mean come on, yha its a species but its allso a realy wicked name.

It's amazing the petty things people choose to be bothered by.
If you don't like it, then just make it so you can't see other pets nameplates. Problem solved.

I used to rage about the Cat Named Dog or Dog named Cat thing all the time. I see it everywhere. I'd rather see one named "Snowball" or "Spot". I can also relate to liking the simple name of "cat" sometimes. I too had a cat that just seemed like Cat. It fit.
What I -don't- like are named like Nytemare or Midnyte. Simply "Nightmare" and "Midnight" are perfectly respectable names, but adding the y just bothers me. It always makes me think that the person naming their pet had this line of thought - "I need a cool name! NIGHTMARE! But that's not unique! If I make the i a y, though, I can be you-neek!"
And the random capitals or all-caps names. And the one that I may hate most, "allyeater" or "hordeeater". Just like that, with no capitalization. They could try to be creative, or at least look intelligent... "Orcmuncher" sounds great. "Elfchewer" shows some thought.
Then again, I'm a hater by nature. xD And really, it's not all that big a deal. Just a little thing that irks me.

Oh, lord yeah. When someone walks by me with a pet like "ASPEHIFDAKL" just because they couldn't think of a name, it makes me want to punch my monitor. ><

I guess I should be more specific.
Some unnamed pets are okay. Cat, Wolf...at least they work. But Spirit Beast doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. The "trophy" pets that go unnamed seriously bug me. >_<
Oh, and regarding turning off pet nameplates, I'd rather not. I'll put up with the occasional corehound named Assmunch so that I can still see pets like Bob the sporebat. (No, I did not report Assmunch...)
