Odd question...

First time posting here and only recently rolled a hunter, i needed a theme to get me motivated. I decided i wanted a silithid themed bm hunter. I actually leveled to 20 petless so my first pet would be the green 'silithid' scorpid :-p
My ultimate plan is:
Worm (tenacity, from silithis)
Silithid (cunning, from silithis)
Wasp (ferocity, from?)
As you can see my problem is currently no silithid wasps are tameable

this is what has been holding me back for a while now.
So my questions are: are they now tameable? What is the lowest level you can tame that 'skin' in cata? This is more important since it lets me replace my scorpid sooner (damn beast mastery!) I know this whole thing seems arbitrary but i have rp reasons for my hunter concept and this would help me be more excited about my hunter
Thanks!

Welcome, and congrats on choosing a hunter! I think a silithid theme sounds really cool.
The silithid wasps will be tamable in Cataclysm. They currently are on the beta, I'm not sure about the PTR though. Anyway, I think the lowest level you will be able to tame one will be at around the mid 40s, in the Silithid areas of Tanaris. If you level up before Cata, you can always get one of the fireflies from Zangamarsh at around level 72 to tide you over while you wait.
You know you're not limited to just 3 pets though, right? You can have up to 5 now, and up to 25 in Cata (possibly with the next patch!) Although scorpids definately rock, I'm pretty sure you'll be wanting some more pets before your 70s. Look at the main Petopia site's list -- I'm sure you'll find something you like.
Happy hunting!

DOn't forget that beetles will also be tameable - silithid beetles in Tanaris, at least, in Beta, at about the same levels as the wasps

Now I would have sworn I saw someone post that fireflies were becoming tamable as early as 15 or so in cata, a while back... weren't they?
If not, you can still take a moth as a "placeholder" ferocity pet for the interim?

There's fireflies in Loch Modan now, including a rare, and those are all somewhere near the level 13 range. (I forget their specific levels, but it's in that area)

Aren't wasps exotic? I can't remember.

Nope, Wasps are regular non-exotics.

Really! Huh. This is awesome info to know. I know I'll pick Forty-Two back up, and I get to run around with him whether I'm BM or not. Yay!

Did a bit of reading before hand and saw early level wasps. But those wasps aren't silithid wasps any more than thw silithid worms are jormungar :-p tganks for all the replies though everyone. The scorpid will tide me over for a bit but now im curious about beetles
Arent there beetles in the silithid cave in thousand needles?

The beetles probably won't become a tameable family until 4.0.3 or the release of Cataclysm, which means the beetles in Thousand Needles will be drowned. D:

The hive in the Thousand Needles survived the deluge and is present in the beta. Apparently silithids can breathe underwater! This is the same hive that has the "brain bug" colossus.. the one that has its brains exposed.
The very first tameable silithid wasps (the tan ones) were found there by... Doth I think? They're flying above the water.
The standard silithid reaver model is wandering across the bottom of the new sea, and comes in several different colours (which remain stable upon taming). Most notable is the tan model, which I don't think occurs anywhere else outside of AQ40.
Later on they added back tan beetles to the hive. So you can find those down there too.

think the only exotic on his list was the worms, and depending on the silithids, you could probably go ravagers too, they look buglike

Lets see, for a silithid hive theme you can go with various color schemes. The silithid creeper/swarmer in barrens will turn into the ant model..but you can still say its part of hive system. Guess they figured scorpions don't make good bugs.

Silithids: You have to have at least one colossi(bug brain) I think per hive.

Wasp: For the stingers and etc.
http://wow-petopia.com/family/wasp.html
Worms: They aren't purely part of the hive but seem connected to their main hive clusters and interactions. One can assume that possibly the silithid work along side the worm creatures and maybe even help live off them.

Beetles: These creatures bring food to the hive, help protect the young and seem to help the workers with creation of the hive and its expansion. They also help against attackers by being their version of tanks. (Beetles are Tenacity)

Pick a color you like for each type and call it a hive.

Last I heard, the creeper remains as-is; it's only the swarmer who morphs into an ant.

Although you're right in that all of these creatures
would look cool together, there has never been any indication to my knowledge that silithids have any sort of active/distinct relationship with worms - if you went far enough up the hypothetical "family tree" you might conceivably find a common ancestor, the way spiders, crabs and shellfish tie together at some point far, faaar back in the mists of proto-history, but otherwise I'm pretty sure worms are just one more indigenous critter in the eyes of the silithid, same as spiders, snakes, moths etc.
Nerubeans
are thought (in game lore) to be a distant cousin of the silithid, but I'm fairly sure that's the extent of it.

I think you'll be waiting until the 40's before you can pick up a silithid wasp (after Cataclysm). Qirot, the white one, is level 39 in Cataclysm but also rare. Then the tan ones from Thousand Needles at 40 and the green & purple ones in Tanaris around 47.
They may add more - there are a couple of hives that can't be tamed yet - but I'm not remembering any that are lower level than that.
