May have found Chatter's replacement

I'm sure most of you are familiar with Chatter, the rare Brown Tarantula that inhabits Redridge Mountains. It appears that he's not around in Cataclysm, however while scouting Redridge today I found something peculiar.

I fly around with Beast Tracking on constantly, and just now I noticed a single red dot on my minimap while going over one area. I discover a creature called Greater Tarantula wandering around with some Blackrock orcs. I don't think much of it really, other than the fact it was odd he by himself around the orcs.

I continue flying and notice there are no other such tarantulas anywhere. I actually go through the entire zone twice, double checking every nook and cranny, and that is the sole mob with the name Greater Tarantula. He is in the area called Render's Valley.

In the southwestern corner there's the regular Tarantula mobs, orange models, that I'm pretty sure have always been there (near the Three Corners). There's multiple of these.

He's not near them though, and there are no other brown tarantulas in the zone. He might possibly be a rare that hasn't been flagged as one yet, and if that's the case I'd say he might be a amnesiac Chatter who's forgotten his name. ;) Even if he's not a rare, the fact that he's unique in the zone with both name and colour is a nice homage to Chatter regardless. ^^

He might be a quest mob, but who knows.

Mmm. Don't expect much out of that spider. After a certain part in a quest chain, phasing will occur and you won't see him again, if I remember the right general area the phasing happens.

*twitch*

This guy seems like a throwback to the old days, like Fleetfoot in Darkshore. But considering that there were NEVER spiders over in that area, I'll stick with your theory that this is Chatter, minus his memory. The wily lil' devil!

Thank you for finding him, Veph; it was breaking my heart that Orpheus and I wouldn't get to visit him on occasion. <3 I hope he gets his name back!

Ahh, were there? I'm not *overly* familiar with Redridge (lacking Alliance characters), so I didn't know there had previously been the dark brown models. >< Well, I suppose it's still good to have a single unique one there, even if it isn't Chatter, we can say it's him. :)

Yep, he was sitting at the mill among a bunch of identical spiders, the greater tarantulas. He looked just like them! The difference was that he had a name and was level 23.

The others didn't have his personality, so I'm inclined to say it's him no matter what. :D

(Although technically, I suppose we could check his id number to find out, but I really don't want to. It's him, dammit. ;))

Thank you again for finding him, Veph; it was distressing to me that all of the brown tarantulas were gone from the zone, including my baby, since that's the color spider I think of Redridge for.

Well, if Chatter just happened to be a particularly exceptional Greater Tarantula among other Greater Tarantulas (so much so that he had to define himself with a name), seeing just a single Greater Tarantula left can only mean one thing in my opinion. ;)

Some pesky adventurer took exception to the others, leaving only a single Greater Tarantula after having completed the quest requirements? ;)
