Ever lost a really big upgrade item you've been farming for, for months perhaps? Share your stories here.
I lost
Distant Land for a second time.
A few months ago, I lost it to a bear despite the staff is not a bear weapon(
Bloodfall from BQ is the bear BiS weapon), it's a BiS cat weapon. I even proved it to the raid group(Which I no longer go with cause they treated me like dirt month before this happened) and showed them the comments and had others vouch for me(after the raid) but they didn't really give a crap.
Tonight, I lost it again to a hunter(Bm hunter at that) which that staff is not really that good for the hunters(Just from what I've read on comments and heard from other hunters) especially because the haste doesn't do much and is wasted. Plus this Hunter was a total pug and a jackass. The raid I am with now is a lot nicer to me. the guild leader was there and said I deserved the weapon despite the hunter rolled higher than me but the loot master/raid leader(in same guild) said the hunter won it, despite it is a terrible staff for hunters.
I know it's just pixels but its times like this that I wanna cry, I really do. It's just as bad as people who are trying to get DFO. the raid I was in had problems with pugs always winning DFO so now we have it on reserve for 'regulars' (like myself that go all the time) only.

Actually, DL is better - according to Shandara's spreadsheet, which is the basis for Femaledwarf.com - than Bloodfall and is also better for any hunter than anything else available before the polearm off Arthas on the normal 25-man setting. A bit of haste on hunter gear certainly isn't going to make you keel over and die, and may even help you out a bit come Tuesday. Yes, the staff off normal Arthas on 10-man outclasses DL by the spreadsheet...but as you're complaining about Distant Land, that staff was not an option for the other hunter or, for that matter, for you in this instance.
And really - upset that the hunter was BM? I'm a bit offended by that. I can understand being cranky because you don't care for someone's personality...but you should not have brought his spec into it. Distant Land is not "terrible" for hunters. If it was, I wouldn't have picked it up myself. Been using it for months now. It is not best in slot...but it is not "terrible."

I'm not particularly keen on Distant Land as it's stacked with Haste and has no ArPen. If it dropped and a kitty Druid didn't want it, I'd roll for it but it's not really on my list of things I want from ICC25.
It comes off as a very high DPS gain in spreadsheets due to all the Haste, which always models high. I haven't run it through SimCraft yet but I suspect it wouldn't be such a stellar upgrade as the spreadsheets indicate.

The spreadsheet overemphasizes haste quite a bit. Whether it's an improvement or not depends on the gear you already had, but most weapons in there will beat it by a distance. Besides, it has no ArP at all, which means that for a hunter (and melee DPS), there are a LOT of better pieces.
EDIT: Beaten by Anansi. xD

Tahlian: Where did i say I was mad that they were BM? You realize I play hunters too, right? BM is my favorite spec. So I'm not sure why you're offended.
Saturo and Anasi: Yeah. Pretty much my thoughts. The staff is a waste to hunters, pretty much. If it was actually good for a hunter, I would've been more alright with it.

It doesn't seem that bad for a hunter...not BiS, but better than ilvl 232 daggers from the 5-mans xD It's a feral kitty weapon, and you should have gotten it. But just like if a ilvl 200 hunter was getting pulled through ICC by a group that could 9-man/24-man it and a big upgrade geared most for kittydruids/rogues dropped, and there weren't any kitty druids and the rogue was wearing full BiS stuff the hunter might take the piece, a hunter might want that.
I'd still give it to a kittydruid before a hunter, though. :/ It's clearly kittydruid gear.

I even offered gold to him and he blatantly ignored me.
Yeah I'd be the same way with Taluwen. When she raids ICC, I probably wont roll on that staff, especially if theres a druid.

Considering my current weapon, I'd take it if no one else needed it. I certainly wouldn't take ti from a kittydruid, though. That's like a rogue rolling on a hunter gun/bow when a hunter needs it.

I know it'll drop again but while everyone says it drops 'often', I've only seen it drop twice and its like the last HUGE upgrade I'll get for my feral kitty.

Also, not too mention, a good weapon means EVERYTHING to physical DPS. Pallies and druids to name a few. You can have meh armor, but if you have a great weapon, you're going to get farther than crummy weapon but good gear.
Hunters rely on their bow. Not their melee. Thereby, the kittydruid needed it even more in this case. It's likely repetitive info, and I suppose I didn't need to add input...but as a kittydruid too, I can understand how annoying it is when people take the things you need.

Well, next patch all arp will be switching to either crit or haste, so Distant Land and Bloodfall won't be as bad for hunters. I have a heroic Bloodfall sitting in my bank just in case it turns out to be better than my normal Oathbinder once it loses it's arp.
I agree currently, ferals should get Distant Land and Bloodfall before hunters. I've been with my guild long enough that I usually get first pick on anything hunterish, but I'm too nice I've passed so much loot to others, including that staff to kitties.

Gun noises annoy me so I never trained in guns. >.> Yup, I can't even equip them.

I see that and raise it to, "Hunter rely on their projectile launching object of death." There, that covers bows, crossbows and guns.

This thread is a year late, since gear doesn't really matter at this point with a complete reset coming with the new expansion. Be that as it may...
Distant Land can be a legitimate upgrade for a hunter, especially since we'll be needing haste with the patch. I'm surprised that you would expect a pug to care about BiS gear. Pugs take what they can get, regardless of whether it would help someone else more. I've certainly not run into many pug raid leaders who give a damn about letting their raiders min-max.
There was no reason whatsoever to bring the hunter's spec into the discussion, which was done in a negative fashion. I'm with Tahlian; that sort of commentary is completely unnecessary and rude.
Oh, and for the record, I've been using heroic Distant Land in my PvE set for months. Never saw any of the ArP upgrades on my hunter. It works just fine.

That is most likely why Tahlian was upset. This comment made it sound like it would have been less upsetting had it been a MM or SV hunter, but no, it was a "BM hunter at that". Which with that tone, implies that the hunter was perceived as a noob both for rolling on the weapon and for being BM. Not saying that's the way you intended it, but that's how it came across.

Yeah I didn't intend that to be rude at all. I was really upset and in a tizzy when I typed that. I couldn't care less if they were BM or not. Only reason I knew they were is they were using Skoll. What gets me is I was incredibly friendly with him from the start, talking about rare pets and Skoll then he totally turns around and is not only a jerk to me but a bigger jerk to the leader of the guild hosting the raid.
Also I think it's been stated by me many times, I LOVE BM. So it'd be stupid of me to bash or talk poorly of a spec I love to pieces. I'm shocked anyone thought such but I suppose wording things when you're really upset tends to go lopsided.
