Beta Scam

So I got a email saying I got beta access today.. However I already have Beta access so right away I suspected something was not right with the email. So I compared the link shorcuts from the original email to this one I just got today. This I have to admit is one very clever email.
Original gets you to go to
http://us.battle.net/account?locale=en_US. This is a legit link.
The one I got today try's to get me to go to the following:htt(pee):(backslash,backslash)eu(dot)battle(dot)net-beta(dot)org/login/en/?ref=https%3A%2F%2Fus(dot)battle(dot)net%2Faccount%2Fmanagement%2Findex(dot)xml%3Flnk%3D1&app=bam&cr=true
I have changed to above link to make sure you can't actually go to a site of any sort.

I counted about 5 things that made it bogus.
1. Not a real blizzard link in the mouseover
2. Green Font
3. To much spacing is used to separate the paragraphs.
4. Lack of info in message source like Received: from IRVEX001.corp.blizzard.net (copied from a legit blizz email)
5. My email was in all cap's. (not necessary making it a fake email from blizz)(had legit blizz emails caping my email addy)

Really now ? Old News that fake Email looks like the REAL email ? Tell me which email is legit and which is not then based on what you can see. Then show me how it's "old News" I have yet to see a email that looks that much like the real thing when you compare it with the others floating around out there.

Clearly the top one. It doesn't have the shiny borders that the bottom one has.

The shinny borders are part of Windows 7. I didn't get them in the first Image due to how I cut out the email from the rest of the screenshot.

Yeah I was just being silly. Without your earlier post noting the differences and which way they went, I certainly couldn't have told the difference. Of course, I refuse to click on a link in an email without checking it first so I should have caught it at that point, but nevertheless that is a high quality phishing email. Far "better" than the "Gamemáster" who whispered me in-game to let me know I'd got a random beta invite...

When I got the real email I was not sure if it was legit. I spent 5 minutes going over it trying to figure out if it was legit or fake. The mouse over links seemed legit and stuff. I figured just to be safe I would logg into my battle net account and check for myself. So I did that and sure enough my account was flagged for beta and I downloaded the client.

Honestly, the easiest and safest way to tell? Actually go to battle.net. Not from a link (I'm sure one day scammers will learn how to mask link targets too). Not from anything else. Open a new window and type in
http://www.battle.net.
If it's real, your beta access will be there. If it's not real, it won't.

Another way to tell? Hover over the links without clicking them. ;3 Just read what it shows up as.
Again, yes, VERY old news. I've had a dozen of them....and I got the real deal too.

Yes it's old news about email scams but the point of the thread is that there getting better. So it's irrelevant if it's old news or not. So your probably gonna stick to your guns like you always do. Due to this I'm gonna just add you to my foe list so I don't have to see anything you type up anymore.

This.
Thanks for posting, Adam. It's good to know that the scammers have heightened their efforts in order to catch the unwary.

i really dont see this as 'better' since its the same emails I've been getting since alpha and thensome. My spam box got to over 100 scam emails in about 2 days. just kinda common sense to be cautious with these emails and not get carried away and if you're not certain, then call Blizzard and put in a ticket.

Yha thanks man. I knew they were good but damn thats realy realistic. I probably would have fell for that one had it come to my battlenet email. Would have thought it was my invite finally

The Average person would. The more I look over the emails the more I spot the very slight differences. I noticed the URL links had different shades of blue from one email to the next.

I saw that too. It's another sign that they're not as smart as ya think. ;3
Now if it were identical and even hovering over the link didn't help, we'd have a huge problem.

Taluwen.. I blocked you for a good reason. Now STOP quoting me.. You have no reason at all to keep replying to anything I say knowing full I have you blocked. I'm asking nicely this time. The next time I won't be so nice.

The best way to tell if an email purporting to be from Blizzard is real or a fake is to open up the full details and check the routing headers to make sure everything - everything - matches up to what it should be on Blizzard's end. A little Internet searching or Google-fu should be able to turn up a post on how to reveal your email's full details if you don't already know how to do it.
And always remember...if something seems too good to be true - it probably is.
