Tauren Pets

I've been playing my female Tauren hunter for awhile, but unlike with humanesque hunters like Trolls, Humans, and Belves, it's hard to find a pet that looks right. I mean, she's a COW and I'm finding it hard to pair her with things that could eat her, like wolves, hyenas, raptors, crocs, bears, and other carnivores. Im also finding odd animals like worms, sythlids, sporebats, chimeras and others to be a strange combination.
I guess my question is.. besides Tallstriders, and hoofed creatures like Rhinos and Boars,
what animals seem to look like it would naturally walk beside a giant two-legged Native American cow?
No animal really says "native american" to me.. except animals that would find beef tasty.
It kinda makes me wish that I was another race... >_<

Dogs and Horses right off the bat. But we can't tame horses and dogs aren't tameable until Cata.
I suggest reading up on native american lore as there are stories and myths about monsters and gods of all sorts, from Coyote, to bears, to wolves, the bison. The stars, sky and moon and just.
If you're not really going to look into something and just be all bothered over it, trying to play a 'native american cow' isn't really for you.
And wouldn't this belong in general pet discussion?

Aside from their actual new talents I'd say a wolf. Depending on colour preference of course, but I'd personally go for Old Cliff Jumper (but I'm a nut for rares).

How about a raven? Native Americans loved those guys.

I personally think Kurken (the white corehound) is a great companion for tauren hunters.

Eagles especially the bald eagle. They didnt eat cows

not to mention they have a huge part in native american lore. Ravens as well. Another animal was the thunderbird...not sure is we have anything like that
Wolves and coyotes as well as pumas were big on lore. And that kinda bugs me what ou said. About it looks weird that your companion looks like it could eat you. Dont you see, thats WHY the native americans liked them, because they COULD eat them. Bears and pumas were regarded as warrior spirits. WHile wolves represented power and teamwork. If I was making a Tauren hunter he would have these pets
Tallstrider, wolf, eagle, Puma.

Eagle is a pretty good one. You might also want to look into a Windserpent, though Quetzelcoatl was more of a Native South American thing. Serpents are also pretty colorful in a Native American kind of way, but I don't think they'd go well with a cow.

I'm playing a Tauren Hunter in the Petopians Guild, and frankly, it never even occured to me that any of Toeph's pets *could* eat her. Her second pet was a polar bear, and if anything, Iroh looks like a cute little teddy. Zuko's a space bug (ravager), and Katara's a cougar. Toeph sees them as her buggy and kitteh.
Pets can surprise you, especially with our new, expanded stables and so much more freedom to choose something. A pet that you don't think will click with your toon while just looking at it in the wild might be a good fit after all. If it isn't, well, it's not like we don't have a lot of choice.
I'd say stop worrying too much about your theme, and instead just find a pet that feels right for you.

Mine had a barking coyote, the golden colored ones. I saw it more like a dog then a wolf, and since they are native to their area and there's even an NPC who has one as a pet, I found it going rather nicely.
Dogs are traditional hunting animals anyway, so it didn't feel odd to me at all.
Another option would be to tame an owl or another bird of prey, and turn her into a falconer which is another traditional way of hunting.

A lion. Not the white or black one, but a regular run of the mill tan one. I love the look of a taurn hunter with a lion. Guess it's a Barrens thing. Or a Mulgore barking dog. Speaking of which, I need to go retame one of those now that the stables have expanded. (Runs off to find his puppy Lucy)

How about trying out a turtle? My Khau has a green & gold model in his stables and the pairing has worked out beautifully for them.
I would also agree with the aforementioned bald eagle, boar, tallstrider, and coyote as being suitable companions.
Perhaps thinking of Taurens more like Minotaurs rather than cows will help you get over certain pet prejudices.

OMG! I'm so sorry! I'm so used to going to the Cata Pet forums that I guess I posted it there. Thanks for the mod move.

Wow, many great suggestions here. Lots of wonderful perspectives too.
To Niabi: I never thought of Tauren as Minotaurs, but I suppose you are right! As with the somewhat strange Middle Eastern(?) satyr combination for Draenei, Tauren are native american minotaurs/Apis. LOL Blizz likes to combine myths from two different cultures to create a new creature. And yes, a turtle would be good! I forgot about those. Some native americans believed the world was birthed on a turtles back
To Max: Yes! Ravens swallow the eyes of their victims to see their last thoughts before their death. That's what White Wolf books say anyway. LOL Probably not true to lore. I'll have to get my Daggercap Hawk back then lol
To Redith: Ohh yes! Bald eagles are good. I have yet to be a high enough level for one. Maybe one day! Puma? I had to stop and look at Petopia to know which model you were referring to, since it often looks too much like a lioness to be labeled a cougar/puma/mountain lion. Hm. I'll keep it in mind.
To Cerah and Sorcha: I suppose you are right about the pets not eating her. Kyle the wolfdog is owned by Ahab Wheathoof in Bloodhoof, so I suppose wolves would be a decent choice for Taurens after all. I suppose that opens up options for any other toothy-grinned critter as well.
To FuzzyDolly: After reading about lions and your Lucy, I'm now longing to get my lion back. With the new patch, I have enough room for him now!
Thanks everyone for replying! It's given me some options and a different view of things. In conclusion, I guess a cow owning a carnivore pet isn't as weird as I thought. It means that the Tauren is stronger than her potential predator, and can keep it tame. Or, looking at it from another way, a mythological cow-woman can have whatever pet she wants, without constraints.
