I'm trying to manage a pet for the first time. I have a couple, a bear stabled and a cat that's currently active. I'm trying to learn how to train the bear in new skills. All of the forums I've searched seemed to either be very outdated, or very unfriendly to folks like me who ask basic questions. Of the posts/articles I've found, they refer to a train pet button in the pet section of the characteristics window. I haven't found it - perhaps things have changed since those were written.

If I understand correctly, in order to get new kinds of attacks, I need to acquire other kinds of pets who have those that my primary pet can accept, hunt with them a bit, then use their skills to train my primary pet. But, how do I actually train my primary after I've hunted with the secondary?

Can anybody give me a concise step by step process to train my bear with additional attacks? For example, I don't know if I can, but perhaps train the bear to have the cat's rake attack.

Your pet trains its new attacks automatically, you no longer have to use a pet trainer or find beasts for their skills.

A bear cannot use rake, they will only come with their own race ability (Swipe), and then your pet automatically learns ones like Growl, Cower, etc. Your pet can have talent points starting at level 20 which is a tab under your own talents. There you can give them more skills and traits.

Pet training no longer exists really. They "train" as they level now. The only new abilities they get are from where you put their talent points.

Thank y'all! That does it for now. I went in and sure enough, there was a skill point to assign.

Incidentally, good forum...I'll keep it and the rest of this site handy until I learn the ropes a lot better.

Ah i kinda miss the days when you used to have to tame other pets to teach yours abilities, good times.
