I am a 79, close to 80 BM specced hunter. I have a nice spider and a nice gorilla, but I want a DPS pet for 5 man heroics. Any suggestions? Maybe a spirit beast if I can find one?

sorry Saturo, I think OP meant Ferocity pet- since they listed off a cunning pet and a tenacity pet.

Lets just run down the utility;

Devilsaurs: +crit +Mortal Strike ability
Wolf: +Crit
Core Hound: Caster slow +Blood Lust
Tallstriders: Melee and Ranged attack speed slow
Carrion Birds: Demoralizing Screech
Cats: Roar of Courage


And well blah it'd just take to long to list them all. Basically just go with whatever pet clicks the most, check their abilities and maybe go with what does your group usually lack? For me it tends to be warriors so +crit and +armor debuff that devilsaurs, wolves and raptors give can be useful. Tallstriders I've seen only a handful of times, but rarely in lv 80 pugs.

Raptor. They have a stacking armor reduction debuff (up to 20%) that's NICE!

get a Corehound (has heroism/bloodlust), Devilsaur (5% crit buff), or hunt a spirit beast (has a heal)

Hunting rares is fun!

Core hound, hands down the best exotic ability with Ancient Hysteria.

I have been looking a little for a spirit beast, but as you know, they are hard to find. I will try out a few of your other suggestions in the meantime, thanks!

Ferocity pets will all do the same damage since their abilities have had the damage portion removed. So what you'll want to do is just find a pet with a buff/debuff you find useful for yourself or your party and go with that. Or, you could be like me who doesn't really care too much about that in five-mans and just take any pet you like!

If you care about PERSONAL dps, specifically in 5 mans, any ferocity pet will do. It is better to take a pet that does a physical buff \ debuff for the odd chance you'll get paired with casters, but again this is the egocentric point of view. If you REALLY want to go for personal dps, take your pets' unique ability off autocast, as it shares a CD with the basic attacks (Bite, Claw, Smack). This is especially true for frequently debuffing pets like Corehound, Devilsaur, Hyena and Raptor.

Also, raptor is not very effective in 5 mans, as its sunders don't get to stack before the mobs dies.

I'd just open the ferocity pets list (http://www.wowhead.com/pets=0) and choose the one that looks like I'll have the most fun sticking around with. And yes, devilsaurs are nice

If you're grouped with a DK, its better to use something else than a Cat (same Buff as Horn of Winter), same as if you have a feral druid, use something other than a Devilsaur (same 5% crit buff), or if you have a shaman in the group, dont use a Corehound (same heroism/BL buff)

I say Ravager too, Its a cunning pet but it will keep up with the Cat esp if you have a dk in your group.
