Any insane pet tales?

Hello all! Long time follower of Petopia, one time star of 'Name that pet!' (I was the night elf that had the 'white beauty of raw female power' Devilsaur that I believe was one of the final Name That Pet's Mania had), and lover of everything hunters! Hopefully, I'll have lots of fun here! :3
Now that intros are out of the way, I'm curious. Recently, I went and made a Dwarf hunter and joined up with Frosthiem and friends over at the WHU Guild, raising up a new hunter to try things out with a level cap set by the players themselves. As such, I wanted to do something different then what I had done with my Main, Araniis, and decided that I would trek half way across the world to grab myself a pet from the Orc Starting Zone, eventually ending up with a Yellow Scorpid whom I named Quickstrike. And Quite recently, I did the same thing again, only this time, I was Lv 30 and I headed into the Blood Elf starting zone to pick up one of their red cats.
So, what I'm curious about is if I'm the only one insane enough to trek a low level hunter into zones that were NEVER meant for the character to get a specific pet for the lower levels. I'd love to hear some of the stories you've got, even if you did end up corpse running most of the way.

The longest run for me was my baby blood elf huntress who ran from Silvermoon at level 10 to Dun Morogh for a baby black bear. I forget what path I took, but I ended up corpse running most of it and just resed in Dun Morogh.

Did you use the teleporter from Silvermoon to port over into Under city and head out from there? Either way, that's quite a trek fro a Blood Elf!

Yep! Am unsure where I died, though. I think in Hillsbrad.
Then I later did another loooong trek from Grom'gol up to Elwynn to grab a gray worg....then changed my mind and ran to Dun Morogh AGAIN to get Timber. That was at level...12, I think. Different incarnation of the same character.

Just random drive by....YAY for the Beast Wars reference. I wanted to name my Devilsaur(the white one) Megatron but it was reserved. ;-; So I named it Grimlock instead. Lisaara has Silverbolt(Old Cliff Jumper).
As for crazy tales.......let me sleep and I'll get back to ya on that.

My most insane tame? besides long camping hours for a certain green rare I think it would have had to be King Dred.
Solo tamed him, went through the entire instance only died once, which meant I had to start all over again. Managed to get there by FDing alot. Got to the pen, tamed and released each raptor and then tamed King Dred on this first shot, and this was before the 10 sec tame ^.^
He was my.. attempt to see how fast I could tame to make it easier for Krush lol.

Not sure if you can call it insane, but I was pretty determined to get my own ghost cat at lvl 19 on my blood elf hunter.

This was in 2007, and i was a happy little noob to the game. I spotted the pet through petopia and immediately fell in love with the ghost saber. I begun my journey up on foot and all alone to Darkshore and tamed the cat after numerous statues.
I was a very happy little hunter with my new we cat. Ever since then, that cat has been abandoned a few times, but I've always gone back for it. x3

Well. I ran a blood elf of mine to get a talking nightsaber who was promptly named Maurice. (Points if you get the reference. No mice were involved. Though I did plan to get one and name it Soap.)
Also, I spent a few days camping Rak'shiri, way back when we had three stable slots? Anyway, I got him, and then abandoned him for a black owl. Then decided, nope, I want him again. So I camped him AGAIN.

I'm a huge Beast Wars fan, had at one time a Greenish wasp named, of course, Waspinator, but got rid of it ages ago partially because it was back when we had 5 stable slots and I always like having one spot open so I can just tame random pets. And my guess would be since Megatron is such a big name (compaired to something like Waspy or Quickstrike), that they don't want you to have it. I do remember having to name one of the Gorillas I had gotten back when we first had Gorilliadin Primal.

I once ran my level 10 dwarf hunter, Grogchaser, from Ironforge to Eversong Woods, through EPL and WPL just to get one of the red lynxes. He promptly dubbed it 'Grog', for only a strong and caustic brew such as Grog would drive an alcoholic dwarf to run so far.

Crazy pet stories? Tons!
I once ran a baby blood elf hunter from Silvermoon all the way to Bloodmyst Isle to get a blue moth. I had help on this one (recruited a DK friend who seemed to just not get why I wanted to go into enemy territory for a bug, but he helped out anyway). Still died a few times.
When Taigi was still a baby hunter, I ran her all the way up to Darkshore just to get one of the cats there. I died once, got all the way up to Darkshore, and rezed at the spirit healer, which promptly popped me back into Ashenvale again. Very annoying. I had to do the whole run again on foot, and this time learned you needed to log out and then back in to actually spirit rez in a zone you didn't die at.
Once helped a friend of mine trek her baby draenei hunter up to Silvermoon to get a red lynx. Problem? I was only like, 35 at the time. I could protect her through things like Hillsbrad and Arathi, but once we got the plaguelands it was just as deadly a run for me as it was for her. Funnily enough, we still made it through WPL unscathed and only died because I was a silly noob and picked up some heroic blood without even thinking about it (in my defense, I'd never seen it before and was curious).
Possibly my all-time crazy pet taming story was my night elf's red hyena, Jiaphyon, from the Scarlet Monastery. The lowest the Scarlet Tracking Hounds can be tamed at is level 33 and obviously, everything in the instance is elite. I ran down on my night elf from south shore all the way to the instance (and keep in mind, at the time it was RUNNING, you still couldn't get even regular mounts until 40). I tried to tame one solo, but it didn't quite work out, so I got one more level and ran back AGAIN at 34 with a trash pet. It took over an hour for me to slowly kill one elite mob at a time up to the first red hyena, and the tame itself almost killed me, but I did it. That pet never left my side again until I hit 80 and I've never released him

Most epic tame I've ever experienced was taming The Beast in upper BRS. Before the taming change went in recently. Trying to get a 20 second tame off on an elite boss that interrupts every 10 seconds is definitely a challenge
My first big tame was when I was leveling to 60 way back in vanilla wow. I wanted a black wolf (not the worg type) and one of the first you have access to is Snarler. Now back then, Snarler was a pretty tough customer. Level 42 RARE elite with high spell resistances and a teleportation ability. I did this at level 42 and taking on an elite your level was not something you normally did back then. You prayed for freezetrap to not resist for this tame or you would likely be making a corpse walk. He was worth the trouble since he kept 100 resist in every element making him a caster nightmare

Got a new insane pet tale for ya. A friend of mine went and ran his lv 10 orc behind all the way to freaking Darnassus to get himself an Owl/Bird of Prey. Considering those birds are rather bleh looking to me with an ability I'll never use (as I don't pvp), I looked at him as he was insane, but he tells me he had a blast dodging the guards from Darnassus.

Well~, I tamed a red lynx on my draenei huntress at level 16, and on my male blood elf I ran at level 10 all the way to Teldrassil for an owl without using the graveyard trick. The lynx was simpler, because I knew the trick then, but oh, I'll never forget the trip to that boat on Tayelin. Rez, move a few inches, die. Rez, move a few more inches, die. Rez, finally reach the boat, wind up in the path of a slowly patrolling guard and die. Get this magical idea to die and rez at the graveyard outside Darnassus, reach it, rez... wind up in Darkshore to do it all again! But it was worth it. I love taming the opposite faction's pets. I do it on every hunter I can. Blue moth on a blood elf at level 22... orange tiger on a night elf at level 10... the list goes on and on.

Not MY story, but my guildmate's.
He got Echeyakee at around lvl 20 on his alliance hunter. He got a trial account just to get to level up a hordie, get the quest and summon him so his hunter could tame him. It was before the restriction on one faction only was lifted, and he didn't want to ask any horde on our server for help. I guess, they wouldn't help him, really, but that's Defias Brotherhood server for you. Horde doesn't like my guild, and for good reason.

Me, I wanted that skin on my own hunter for a long time, but I was perfectly content to wait to get to Winterspring and just tame Sian-Rotam...

A long time ago, sometime in vanilla, I ran a little dwarf huntress in her teens (probably 13 or 14) from her starter area all the way to Mulgore to get a barking wolfy. I met a few high levels on the way (especially waiting on the boat in Booty Bay) and they thought I was crazy running all that way for a pet; though when I explained that the wolf actually barked when clicked on, they were quite curious. That run through Stranglethorn Vale, even knowing where packs of mobs were, was very hectic and took FOREVER.
I also ran my troll huntress to get an owl way, way back when WoW first came out. I knew of the owls from beta, and as I had settled on my troll as my main hunter, she just HAD to have one. Goodness, it was a horrible trek, and took several hours (there were WAY less graveyards back then, very spread out). Ikult got so many compliments on that owl as she leveled. Her owl and bat pets were best friends, after some initial stress over comparing wing spans and vying for their mistress' affections.
