Why do YOU have two hunters?

I have recently been going around on a lot of forums, especially this one, and I've noticed a lot of hunters have more hunter toons. I know some of you even have 3-4 hunter characters. Hunters are DPS no matter what spec, so why do YOU have a hunter alt?
Not saying I'm againist it. Just wondering why everyone would go through the trouble of taming rares/gearing all over again. I'm a bit curious since I've been thinking of doing it myself; I want to try explosive shot as a level ten.
So yeah... Why do YOU have more then one hunter character?

Two? Just two? I have 3, two of which are lvl 80. I'm planning at least 2 more after Cata!

Why? For the pets

The main appeal to the hunter class for me is the whole customization brought about by their pets.
I
love thinking of themed stables. Though at one point half of my realm was dedicated to Hunter alts, I cut down a bit and have a total of 3 for my main server.

My first, Vephriel, is my main. The second is my PvP hunter, a female Troll. And my vanity/theme hunter will be Spiders the Undead in Cataclsym, with a stable including one of each spider model in game.
Hunters are my favourite class and I never get sick of rolling them. I have a lot of fun envisioning baby hunters and planning out their stables. They're the only class that has that extra spice of choice when rolling a new one. As Teigs said, it's all about the pets. ^^
As an aside, 'gearing up' is something I'll only do for Veph. She's my main character in every sense of the word. I only collect mounts, minipets, and achievements on her. My alts are strictly for fun. ^^

I have three, and there's a couple reasons for that. First, different races look good with different pets, in my opinion. I couldn't stand the way Nuramoc looked with my troll huntress, but with my draenei, it's a completely different story. I like being able to tame all the pets I want without having to stop and cringe every few seconds because this one or that one just doesn't match. XD Second, I'm a roleplayer at heart, and I like to be able to roleplay different characters while still enjoying my favorite class. I might feel differently if I was in it mostly for the gameplay.

I have two right now, though I'm finding myself slightly bored with the leveling grind at the moment so Aoani isn't moving forward very much...

Anyway! I'm planning a third in Cata.
Reason? Well, it's the same reason I have two druids and two shammies. I enjoy playing around with the character. I distinguish the toons on the basis of spec, theme, personality, and/or faction.

I wish I had just two... I've got 2 on just one realm... same faction even!
However, the reason is because to me, no two Hunters are alike. Period. All my Hunters have a different feel to them. For example, my NE will only tame cat, wolves, or other 4-legged mammals. My Draenei though, she's all about the reptiles. My Worgen? Well, not sure about her yet, but we'll see.
However, the fun thing about Hunters is that even if you meet another Hunter whose the same race as you, you could have different pets. It's almost like an extra addition to my gear like an accessory! "Do I want the wolf or the cat? Oh the spirit beast matches my eyes!" (jk, but you get the idea).
TL;DR
No two hunters feel alike for me. Each have different stories, feels, and pet associations.

I've got three hunters in total. Originally, I only made new hunters so that I could tame new pets. But now that more stable slots have been released, I honestly don't see myself making another hunter. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE hunters. I just think that I've devoted more than enough time to leveling one class by now.

I have two main hunters. I love having the freedom to name and tame differently, depending on the hunter's vibe. I love Gumbo, Kallimon's croc, but he would never click with Kalliope.
It's my class of choice. I couldn't stay on Nesingwary in the Petopians guild on just my shammy for long. I missed my hunterness.

I definitely agree, the pets you tame and their personalities really center around the character. I recently tamed a ravager on Aoani and clicked with him much better than I ever did when I had that same ravager for Sara.
... and yeah, I also made Aoani after realising I missed the taming and siccing and mending and feeding and petting... the DK I rolled on Nesingwary just wasn't doing it for me.

I hadn't put it this way in my head, but this is exactly how and why I do it also. Setting aside the 17 testing hunters at different levels that I have, I have one main Horde hunter, one main Alliance hunter, and a stable of (right now) four hunter alts. (I slimmed down a bit in preparation for Cataclysm.)
I collect things (achivements, tabards, mini-pets) on my Horde main (Mania) and then, only if I feel like it, on my Alliance main (Nefane).

The real question is....
Why not?

Hunters are always a fun class because of the fact players can choose from dozens of animals to tame and befriend. As long as you're a different race and have different pets, it will definitely be a different experience from others. That is why it's not tiring to have more than one hunter. Plus, it's a great decision for people that are right-out animal lovers, like me.

For the very same reasons that have been previously mentioned. The Hunter class is the only class I have never grown tired of playing and, more then than now, it was a way for me to have the room for the pets I so desperately sought after.
Perhaps people may look at my total of 8 hunters and see it as a waste but I have way too much fun customizing pets, specs, and storylines for each of them to ever give any of them up.
My Hunters
1. Khau: Tauren
2. Auroryn: Blood Elf
3. Kadija: Troll
4. Niabi: Draenei
5. Ghiselle: Dwarf
6. Rosaria: Human
7. Lilyth: Night Elf
8. Synestra: Undead

I have three. One for each spec. In addition, my Hunters are themed; meaning each one has a certain pet scheme in mind. My Orc (main) is a Beast Master with exotic/unique pets. My Troll is a Marksman with loas pets (Troll gods). My Blood Elf is a Survivalist with white pets (all white, only excepts are Uhk'loc and Mist Howler).
A few months after Cataclysm hits, I'm thinking of rolling a Forsaken Beast Master with black pets. I miss Humar.

I have three (two BM, one SV). Each are on diff types of servers.
My first hunter was a night elf on Dragonmaw (pvp) that I rolled when my RL friend wanted to go alli when we got our copies of WoW.
Two is a troll hunter I rolled for fun on Feathermoon (rp) to get a taste of the role play element of the game.
My last is my forever-main orc hunter on Fizzcrank (pve) that I rolled after too much alliance raid guild drama at 70.
I'm rarely (if at all) seen not playing my orc hunter though.

I have currently two Hunters at 80 (one for each faction, both are BM for life), one at 30 (just wanted a Troll Hunter, also BM XD) and one at 15 (SV). Come Cataclysm, I'll probably make loads of new Hunters - Worgen, perhaps Undead...
I just find each of my Hunters an individual, and I enjoy RPing their pet choices. ^^

I was reading this, and all the "what do you mean '2'?... I have 3 (or 4)" replies made me feel... awkward.
On one account, on one server, I have 5 hunters (1 alliance, the balance horde, 2 of them level 80).
On my other account, I have 4 hunters (1 alliance, the balance horde, 2 of them level 80).
And yet another account, I have 2 hunters.
Bear in mind, these are toons on my main server.
I have hunters on 3 or 4 other servers as well, across those three accounts.
What can I say? I just love playing Hunter, and enjoy leveling it up from ground level.
And yes, I actually DO play every single one of my toons...
Except for my twin paladins.. I HATE paladin. I just wanted to be able to say that I've tried it.
Besides, the pallies are getting deleted soon as Cata comes out to make room for a pair of.. you guessed it: Worgen Hunters.

/shrug I guess I'm a little different. I have a second hunter because, at the time I started her, faction changes were not available, Tahlian was stuck as a night elf, and I was playing Horde and having more fun over there. So I rolled a Tauren hunter. She was 80 for a good while and not really getting much attention when faction changes became available, and Tahl became a Sin'dorei. Now, Tahl's my raiding main, and Oakleigh (said Tauren hunter) will probably be used to collect all the fun pets that I don't have room for on Tahlian.

As to why it wound up that way? I guess I just like the blood elves. They're a good-looking race, and most -
most - armor sets look good on them. Aesthetics, I suppose.
