I'm about to start on my pre-Cata kill time-athon for the three whelps I'm missing in my pet collection and I'm wondering if any of you have farmed the little beauties before.
How long did it take you to farm yours? Got any tips for a new whelp hunter?
Whelps to go:
Azure Whelpling - got it!
Dark Whelpling - in progress
Tiny Emerald Whelpling - still missing
Tiny Crimson Whelpling - still missing

Time, patience, and perserverance are the keys, just like hunting a rare mob. I can give some advice though, from the long hours I've spent farming these little cuties.
For the black whelps, farm the mobs in the Badlands above Duskwallow. All the whelps that drop the Dark Whelpling are concentrated in one area of the zone, and there's quite a few of them. The Badlands are usually quite dead too -- I only ran into a couple mineral farmers while hunting for mine. Got my baby Deathwing minion in just a few hours.
For the red whelpling, I'd recommend farming on a character that can quickly get around without mounting all the time, like a mage (blink), druid (cheetah form), Shaman (wolf), rogue (sprint) or even warrior (charge). The mobs are spread out just enough to make mounting a pain. Just keep circling, and kill every whelp you see, even the one that doesn't drop the small pet (since one that does might replace it when the mob respawns)
I haven't got the Emerald Whelpling yet, but I've spent *a lot* of time farming them. Get a book, or something else to do, while you wait for the mobs to respawn -- it doesn't take long to kill every whelp in the area, and while the respawn timer isn't that long, it's just long enough to be quite annoying.
Also, farm with a toon that knows skinning, if you have one. Dragonwhelp scales are used in quite a few low level leatherworking patterns, and you can make a decent amount off the auction selling them.
Good luck! You'll need it.
