263, I believe that is the number for all non-casters.

The hit cap is 8% for heroics, the same for two-hander melee.

All classes that deal primarily physical damage (Hunters, Rogues, DKs and such) need 8%.
Casters (Mage, Lock and such) need 16%.

As a hunter , you want to be slightly over the 8% cap to ensure that the pet is capped as well. 264-270 rating is a good range to be in.

Range and single weapon is 8%. 262.32
Spell hit is 17%. 445.94
Dual-wield is actually a whopping 27% for white damage. 885.33
Reference for melee hit.
Reference for spell hit.

Hehe, don't worry. While I have some time I'll make a capping guide. ;D

Stupid queston.
Does this also include a hunter's "spell" shots? Like arcane and such? Are they classified as "magic" or "ranged" ?
Demon,

All hunter spells are classed as Ranged attacks, so it's the same 8%.

Chrizesu made a guide a while back that went over the different stats, including hit.

As a side note, from a hit perspective, all hunter shots are the same, but when it comes down to what the damage done is classified as, we cover arcane (arcane and volley), nature (any poisoning shot, including chimera), and fire (explosive) trees, in addition to the pure physical shots.

Yet, as a blue went over before, all hunter shots count under physical ranged hit.
