Hai guise. So, I've just done something silly and abandoned my hyena--the red ones are turning into Mastiffs come Cata, and I wanted to make a space for Shango, who will be a tiger-saber.

I then got into a raid where the only missing buff was Mangle, lol. I probably shoulda waited till Cataclysm to ditch poor Styx.

Well, I'd like a Mangle pet until then. (Ferocity ofc!)

So, which hyena to get? It's between these:

Purple Hyena:


White Hyena:


Dusky Hyena:


Orange Hyena: (either of the 2 very similar skins)

Here's my Armory for those of you who need to see a hunter to match with the pet!

My personal vote is with Giggler, the white one. Always liked that skin.

I voted orange because, well, it's my preferred skin aside from the red. Also, I love how he's sniffing the ground in that picture. xD

I'm partial to the purple-ish hyena, myself. I love Snort. :3

I chose Dusky. Always my favorite.

And as a feral druid, I must say: No screwing Mangle! Mangle is your friend! Love your Mangle! Love your Feral! After all...

And yeah, I do love mangle, as I love my feral ^^ I just wish they'd fix the poor hyenas, lol.

The purple one's out. I looked at all five repeatedly and the purple's just too sloppy/saturated, and colorful for my char. But between the rest...

I'm leaning toward white, but its face looks weird to me somehow. The orange has nice colors but the eyes are very plain & black, it's attractive overall though. The gray/purple one is a recolor of the purple (or vice versa) with the saturation shifted about, and the claws are bright purple--not sure if I can unsee that, plus the head-cap is light gray. It makes him look like an old man.

The gold/black one is actually nice, especially with SSO tabard... but in some lights it's close to green...

Too bad, the purple one is probably one of my other favorite colors after the red hyena. I considered getting one of those before I got my Jia.

The yellow one does look very nice with your orc, though. I also like the way the orange one looks with her too, but I think the yellow one looks nicer. And hey...that's a Barrens hyena too. That's orc territory

Right, after asking a few guildies too, everyone said the white (or gray) looked best with my orc, out of the orange/gray. God, the process of elimination on this one was hard--but this vote here was tied between white & purple, and I decided that (surprisingly, since I'd quite liked the images I'd seen) I wasn't a major fan of the purple. So, white it is!

I was going to name the orange Brimstone if I kept him, so I then spent about two hours thinking of names.

In the end I settled on Samedi. Aside from meaning Saturday in French lol, it is also the name of Baron Samedi--the Loa of Death in I think Haitian Voodoo. He wears black and white (tophat and tux, like a man dressed for a Haitian funeral), and in some cases has a skull for a face. He is drinking, smoking and having fun--and incidentally, shepherds the dead into the underworld.
