Every time I've seen him he's been standing still in a ... err .. ribcage? Or two tusks maybe. Anyway a small set of standing bones. I believe it has some meat in it. He may path - I just haven't seen him anywhere other than there.

He is north of Southmoon ruins between big bones indeed.

Anyone happen to know if he does sometimes spawn at level 48, or has 49 only been seen?

Thanks so much came here to ask, the directions were prefect. All I can add is a loc (40.2, 67.5) ... as for timer, I was there a little over an hour before he spawned. Good to have my Jester back, thanks again! /dance --- sorry I forgot to look at his level, was just too excited. He did have a knock back that broke my first tame.

So perhaps a tenative 5-8 hour long respawn timer then?

I was SO frustrated to find that my beloved red hyena (of more than four years and many adventures) had been turned into a stubby-legged, jowly hound dog. After Thanksgiving, taming Slaverjaw and restoring my Bonesnapper is the first thing on my WoW list!

I just found Scarlett (Slaverjaw) at 10:51pm EST! I feel complete again! NPC scan found it and I wanted to pass on the ID# is 39185 if your Add-on hasn't updated to include him. Happy hunting and good luck to everyone missing their hyena.

For those who use locations, Slaverjaw's spawn point was at 40.1, 67.6. He was just standing in the middle of the 'patch of bones' there, looking... well... red. I'm so happy to have my Crusade back!

Ryai, uh sorry I tamed him on Mits about 10/15 minutes ago 8D
He stands out a mile just standing there in the ribcage and happened to have no mobs around him. The best location is go to the southern most ruins and head straight north as the first set of bones is where he was. Hell I saw him before NPC Scan did...

I was pretty annoyed when I logged in and found that ugly mastiff in my stable as well.
Just went down to find my old Trick again and he wasn't there. Happily-because I didn't have any pets I wanted to loose on hand (Chromaggus, Loque'nahak, Ashtail and undead eagle were with me)-I flew back to Gad and got my purple hyena out of my stable. Flew back, ran up and there was Trick, just waiting for me.
He does a knock-back attack, so be sure to ice trap him before you tame if you are after this pretty. I'm lazy at 80 these days and usually forget to ice trap the lower level pets when taming, lol.

Respawn timer seems to be 5 hours or less, indeed. My server had a rolling restart at 5:00 AM, and at 10:02 AM, when I logged in, he was there. Standing between the bones north of Southmoon Ruins, as stated above. It's the small ribcage, not the huge ones with the searing rocs.
Edit: And of course, I tamed him. It's good to have my hyena back. But I'm still wondering how he got that mastiff to exchange places with him. And what was he doing in Tanaris anyway?
